A number of people have spoken to me about this forum so over the past 2 weeks I've been keeping an eye on it.

It seems a few of you are soley here to flame others and you know who you are, while the others use this forum as it should be, for general chat about quake2, and chat linked to #quake2.uk.

I don't want to sit here locking threads and so on so please sort it out (I see nath tried recently ).

I really dont see what the problem is. Although i still play it, Quake2 is a dying breed, and so there isn't going to be as much conversation about the game anyway is there?

You say the forum should be used for chat linked to #quake2.uk, well the ppl in that channel have already said that only about 2/3 of them play the game itself, and if people like myself/slicer and others are banned, instantly from the channel whenever we enter it, how on earth can we possibly 'link' chat to this forum?? Exactly, we cant, and so we are going to have to talk about other stuff.

I for one, am clueless as to why i am actually banned from the channel. After all, i said nothing abusive in my short time in the channel.

What gets me is why you moderator's think u can do whatever you want in these forums, yet in mirc, you show no justice whatsoever to people like me who are banned from such channels for no reason whatsover.

Is this just a case of you sucking up to the #quake2.uk bunch and doing whatever they want? Or can't you be bothered to look a bit more deeper into the matter?

What gets me is why you moderator's think u can do whatever you want in these forums, yet in mirc, you show no justice whatsoever to people like me who are banned from such channels for no reason whatsover.

GLyNN3RS I don't have access to that channel so I can't remove bans nor add them. Individual channels are the responsiblity of the channel owners.

As for these forums. I don't think I can do what ever I want on them. I know these forums will probably remain the same and nothing will change, but after some complaints I had to try something so I created this thread as a nice request to cool the flaming down a bit.

Is this just a case of you sucking up to the #quake2.uk bunch and doing whatever they want? Or can't you be bothered to look a bit more deeper into the matter?

The reason I am in #quake2.uk is a lot of people I know are in there. I used to idle a lot in #quake3.uk, but hardly anyone talks in there, unlike #quake2.uk where there's always action .

I think u will find that i was banned for just idleing, which is what you can do right? I think another reason was because someone probably did a 'whois' on me and saw that i was in the '#f00fighters' channel, which includes Slicer. And we all know what you think of him. I dont know what slicer did that was prolly a while back though.

You will also find that Mitche complained in another thread for being banned from the channel for just ideling, and that no one listened to him whatsoever. Could this be because you DONT have a decent enough reason? I think so, oh yes, its true.

Just because people who enter the #quake2.uk channel are also in #f00fighters, that doesn't mean that you can just ban them automatically.

GLyNN3RS I can't comment on how #quake2.uk is run as the channel owners are the only ones by Quakenet rules who have a say in there. It seems a bit unfair though, although I guess if the channel is getting a lot of hassle constantly from guys in #f00fighters then the only way is to do a total channel ban?

yes it does. The owners and (less so) the ops can ban someone for whatever reason they like (provided it isn't contrary to the accepted network rules of quakenet - eg racism etc). As it is, everyone in #f00fighters is a complete tool, so we've "badchan"'ed it.

These forums have absolutely nothing to do with #quake2.uk on Quakenet, although it's interesting that the mods of both think you are a tool

At the end of the day, as Dave said, even if you hadn't done anything on irc, you've proven yourself to be a total cocksmoker on here, ironically thus justifying your ban (if justification were needed, which as I said earlier, it isn't).

Thx Psycho, you have made one of the best points in this debate (for once). I think its a disgrace that these people in #quake2.uk seem to think they have the right to ban people from this channel. I must emphasise the word 'QUAKE2', yes, thats right, 'QUAKE2', which means that people who 'hang out' in this channel surely must have some connection with the game quake2??

If all you lot wanna 'socialise' or 'hang out' together in the same room so much then why not create a new channel and do all your socialising there? Instead of hogging the #quake2.uk channel to the extent that you just ban whoever you like, and that no one can actually have q2 conversations??

This is a matter that needs some decent looking into i reckon.

Right, seems appropriate for me to be able to make some points.

Regardless of a channels name, as was said by Nath, the channel belongs to those who made it in the first place, and quake2.uk was made ages ago, and the mantel has been passed down the line to the current owners and channel ops. Yes, it started out to be a Quake 2 chat channel.. the main regulars are still in the same channel to this day, and as expected, very few still play quake 2... not many people do play the same game for that long period, from channel start to its current start is a long time. Would you leave your home in london because you didnt think you was a true cockney any more..?
If you have a complaint to make, take it to the channel owner (Stu), or #feds, both will tell you where to go, i.e. the door, because your point is both invalid and moronistic.
If they want to remove a person or persons from their enviromental community - that is their choice, not yours. It is #feds policy to not interfere with the running of other channels in such a way as this anyway.
Do quake2.uk and barrysworld a favour by not bothering to complain to anyone, just forget about it, lead your own life in #f00fighters and preferably not emerge anywhere else, where you will be given the same treatment typically anywhere.

We do. The way IRC works, channels always have ops for enforcement. Or would you like to go to #feds and tell the opers they have no right to remove people from the network? They don't claim to own (ie have possession) of quakenet, but they are there to enforce the rules.

Like I said, the ops of any channel can ban whoever they like. As for conversation, people can (and do) talk about pretty much whatever they like in #quake2.uk, Quake 2 included.

Your comments show a total lack of understanding about how IRC works, so I'll explain this one to you. Channels have what are called "bots" to control them - they are basically automated clients. These bots have 3 levels of recognised users on them - "ops", the lowest level, "masters", and at the top, "owners". If you dispute the terminology, go argue with the guy that wrote Eggdrop.

Great, we don't want to socialise with you either. Go in #quake2 if you want, or any of the other channels on quakenet that we have absolutely no concern with. Or, better yet, get off your arse and make your own? I'm sure it will be very popular.

My clan channel is #cs - yet do you see us giving it to the Counterstrike community? No? Well thats because they actually go to a channel where Counterstrike is the topic. Quake2.uk is the name of the channel but no longer the theme of the channel.

So guess what?

Go find a channel where Q2 IS the theme of the channel.

Even if your point was valid Gylnn3rs, it wouldnt matter a jot. Thats' not how it works on IRC, even the internet for that matter.

In fact some would say the same applies to real life as well.
