There is no reason why people should be scammed in this way.
Its simple do not trust anybody with your money, because yuo will find people arent always what they seem.

be sure you know what you buy before you click accept and use common sense.

And when trading money / itamz to one of your other chars, don't use the first person you see in gothwaithe to do it. It's almost never that urgent that you can't wait for a guildie/friend to help you. And if you insist on using strangers use someone with a reputation to lose.

Whereas its a good idea to name and shame imo, as it helps stop other people falling into the same trap, it would help if we knew exactly what happened.

Sadly if it was a /level character then theres every possibility its since been deleted and moved on

Always the way - give a friend ur details he'll scam u or someone else.

U should now tell ur friend to get his own acct, imo. and change ur password.

this is how my money was taken after Vmibuffs was recommended by Saveria

Vmibuffs 'ok m8, I have seals on my alt, can you pay money to this character and then I will log Vmi'

Vmibuffs 'don't worry m8 as Severia told you I trade all the time'

well thats how easy I was defrauded, and I have not as yet reported it to CS, but was about to do so to try and have account banned or somehow slapped. But will hold off til I talk with you.

I can say this account is not a traded account, only I have ever played it, and it has only Salkor.

I have had a previous account, but I stopped playing that quite a while ago before I returned to DAOC and bought a shiny new SI game.

I almost decided to give up again after getting scammed so obviously. However I am glad that Dalby appears to be willing to put it right. Also, yes I will never deal with unguild people again except through safeguards

With transfers between servers, you need to do some research really. Find someone who has a reputation to lose on the target server and also plays on your home server - check people's forum sigs as they'll usually have their characters listed and not manny people are going to have fake sets of level 50s listed in the hope they might one day get a chance to scam somebody (I hope I haven't planted any ideas there). It's best to find someone who's a member of a well-respected guild, if you DO get scammed then the guild may compensate you (and take action against the errant member) to preserve THEIR rep.

Secondly, if you're the one proposing the cash transfer you need to be the one who hands over cash first - that reassures the person you approached that YOU aren't trying to scam HIM, and the fact that you initiated the deal means that you're safe from someone approaching you with malice aforethought. There's still the risk of them suddenly giving in to temptation, but by picking someone who has a lot to lose or who has a reputation for doing cash transfers safely you've minimised that risk.

Thirdly, confirm everything in chat and take screenshots as added insurance (I prefer these to log files as they're harder to fake). GOA won't take any action, but at least you can include some evidence so it doesn't become a "your word against theirs" scenario.

well I seem to be getting no where finding 2 of the Prodigy members who use this account and have expressed a desire to make financial reparations for the fraud by Vmibuffs.

However I keep getting a 3rd person (also from Prodigy) who while replying with pleasanties is not offering recompence, or even the name of a 4th? person who accesses this account.

I have been online for 8 hours every evening since this fraud occured and Vmibuffs has been online but none of those listed above.

Ok realistically I probably will not get any of these Prodigy members to repay the money that their Buffbot stole from me, but I would like them to 'grass up' the player who was using the buffbot at the time.

Well I am sorry if I have jumped to a false conclusion. Prodigy has always been a guild I have respect for, I even have a few friends in the guild. (though I know that one single individual is not worthy of respect, and again I empesise I would very much like to see Prodigy punish the person which is why I mentioned them). However I may seem like I am 'crying' because as far as DAOC has gone Since Monday (60hrs) when this happened it has not been a pleasure at all to play (I am only a low lvl character with only a crafter on my account - hard to play with just 10g). Like you I play this game for some relief from the pressures of RL, instead DAOC has actually stressed me out in real life.

As to the possibility of flaming me as stupid, well yes, I have been. How can I deny that. I allowed Vmibuffs to ruin the last few days. I have done that, I have allowed it, I stupidly traded my money to him. Me. Me. Me. And every day I see him online, ask yourself please what you would feel like.

Hmm...

Watching this one closely, lets hope this situation sorts itself out. I'm a little surprised that a gm from The Prodigy hasn't spoken up, surely this is a situation where a member, or members, are bringing a highly respected guild into disrepute.

On the one hand I cant help but feel for u War, but on the other what are u doing lending ur account details and buffbot to people, especially people as untrustworthy as this person.

Salkor, I hope u get ur money back. To be ripped off like this is awful.

Like I said, I think I'll watch this one closely, and I'm sure others will too.
