To be honest, you should have sorted that out with your company in advance. The entire relocation process is expensive and companies know that. Over here, it´s quite common that the company will pay for the relocation, saving you some money for the deposit.

How abot talking to your land lord, explain the situation and ask him to pay the deposit in installments? Worth a try...

i aint trolling, i just think its a bit rich asking your company if they can pay for something which should be upto you to provide, if you were relocating for the job then yes that would be different.....

the rant isnt about the company not paying for something. its about asking the people 'who are there to help' for help, and having them brush you off.
toht said he is already working on getting the money, whatever way that might be, talking to the landlord or borrowing from a friend, thats not the point. the point is that the people who say that you should ask them for advice brush him off without actually doing anything.

I have no problem with you telling me why I mis interpreted you, but you did not. You did your usual "Fuck off" reply that anyone gets when you don't like what they say.

I don't feel burned Olga, I think it's funny Toht starts a sympathy thread and expects everyone to play ball, think it's quite clear I am not the only one who read his threa like that from the answers.

Anyway good luck getting the money.

Not a sympathy thread, just a rant, the fuck off was for your assumptions and insinuations and well deserved i might add, seeing as it was neither here nor there regarding the topic. But hey, Ch3tan never makes mistakes right?

Asking, as said, costs nothing. Asking does not equal expecting.

I do expect some back up on their claims of being "friendly" and the company being "together". This enforced the boss/worker wall.

Yeah, i've worked for two years there so it's not re-location as such. Just a move. That's why i couldn't really talk to them when making the contract :p

Deposit in parts might work, but it would pump up the rent to quite a high one. What with rents being near the 500 mark anyway.

Surely if theres nothing in your contract they arent obliged to assist in this way at all. I wouldnt be surprised by that kind of reaction from HR if I asked that kind of question as theyd probably think "wtf is he on about".

Especially as you've said in your case its a small company, so they arent going to have capital laying around that they can sink into long term deposits or whatever.

Unless your mid/upper management or above its one your going to have to sort out by yourself/with family id have thought.

On a complete side note:

If I had a firm that did well, and could afford it..
I could definatly see the props of having a couple
appartment blocks close by, owned and managed
by the company.

It's times like these you really should think about having a 1000 quid 'floor' in your bank account or have a separate savings account.

I'm always suprised by people who go around living every day as you go financially. Shit can hit the fan very quickly and long term approaches are always best!

That said - why don't you dig into your overdraft? Please don't tell me you roll with a constantly maxed overdraft? Or get a credit card with so and so months of 0% apr; make the minimum payments each month and be sure you pay the fucker off before the 0% stops.

I don't roll with any overdraft and i don't do credit cards.

I had a nest egg, as one should, but that got used when the poop hit the ventilator last time.

Now i'm bouncing back from a rather bad situation(financially) and while my living ain't luxurious, i don't mind it, but it also doesn't give me any room for savings. I know it's hard to understand, but when you get into that first BIG trouble, it takes time to come back and there's not much room for saving then.

Thing is, people always assume that it's the first time someone is in trouble and there is no such thing as a fool proof plan. Sometimes those rainy days are rainy years.

But like i said, i'm not complaining about any of that, only complaint i ranted about was of the boss/worker cap being widened by a rude answer to a polite question, which is completely normal in these parts.

my place wouldnt pay security deposit but they are paying 6 months rent plus various other shenanigans. they also do loans that you can pay back at an agreed rate with the payroll dept.

it is also not possible just to save money up. i pay out 900 quid a month before i know whats going on. unless i sit at home every single night every month all year, it will take me over a year to save up a '£1000 buffer'.
i tried to save this month, £115. turns out the car tax is due (wasnt aware as i hadnt been paying for the car till now) anf the council want an advanced payment for next month so they can setup my direct debit. dont understand it my self either but what can you do, dont pay it and go to prison.

Why do people think credit cards are bad?

People are bad - not credit cards. Credit cards are bad when they are used by bad people!

It is the perfect way to lend short-term if you are sensible about the repayments.

just a tip. if you have a tesco card, phone up and say you want to leave.
theyl offer you something to stay with them and they told me "phone back in march again and say you want to leave", theyl give something else.

they cut my interest from 16% to 8% APR

Council taxs the biggest fuckin rip of them all in terms of bills etc.

The double payment thing for months 9 and 10 so you don't pay 11 and 12 is idiotic. Why make people pay double in december & january when the cash flow is probably at it's worse?

That means in december & january I'm paying out fuckin 260 quid for the two months and thats with a 25% discount. Would be 340 or so otherwise. A joke.

its not really a double payment. they just divide the bill by 10 instead of 12. it spreads out over the whole period.

and how the shit is your council tax £130 a month on a 25% discount, are you living in a mansion in the middle of london?

if your council is doing something different doubling months 9 and 10, then why dont you just select to pay over 12 months?

my water is a rip off, £60 a month and all i use of it is 1 bath a day and flush the bog a few times. electricity is £60 a month and i get so much more use from it.

It's 64 quid a month but instead of dividing it over 10 months rather than 12, they seem to do 8 months then 2x double months.

I will try to change it it but atm its on my list of things to do (at the bottom, rather than top ;d)

Water is 60 quid a month? Can't you change provider? That's insane.

Even elec at 60 quid is bloudy expensive. Is that based on estimates?

Exactly, sometimes saving just isn't an option. I could probably manage 50/month for saving, with a lower rent(i'm already at the lower end of rent, so doubtful) i might scrounge up a 100, that would still take a year of saving to get that deposit :p

I know that a "nest egg" is a solid and smart thing to have, but Bugz i hope you don't have to use that nest egg in dire straits as after that(if you're not back on solid ground), you'll have a hard time saving it up again.

I don't think credit cards are bad, just think that they aren't for me. That's why i don't use one, because i know that it would be too easy to use.

Also i like to handle money, keep a better track on it instead of paying for stuff without knowing what i have.

i can change my water to a meter rather than a credit account.

60 quid electric is not that bad. the standing charge is £1.25 a week. i run 2 storage heaters, an immersion 2 hours a day, fridge, washing machine twice a week, 42" plasma tv roughly 3 hours a day. this is on a meter with edf, who actually charge the same rates as their credit customers. i can change to a credit meter with them now, stay a month then swich suppliers.

64 quid a month council tax is nothing. i pay £90!

on a water meter i will save about £400 a year.

If you've got electric and gas Bugz, then have a look at switching to "utilities warehouse" as your provider.
