Jamesons 12 year reserve with ice for a treat
and regular black bush and ginger when at bars

The main difference between Irish and Scottish Whiskey/Whisky is the Irish distill it 3 times, the Scottish only do it twice, www.drinkfocus.com/whiskey/irish-whiskey.php
Gotta love the Irish phrase for Whiskey - Uisce Beatha (Water of life)

As opposed to the Scots phrase for whisky, Uisge Beatha (water of life). Since its virtually the same language.

All the people who have suggested JD et al to someone asking about whisky are cretins. Its like someone asking about champagne, and telling them Lambrini is great.

Hardly the same thing at all, it covers a wide range of beverages from Claymore whisk(e)y at like £5 per bottle (a blended whisky)

to some insanely old single malt whisk(e)y that you buy by the ml.

Each unto their own.

By defination Lambrini can't be Champagne as by EU directive, only wine made from grapes in the Champagne region of france can be called Champagne. Where as Whisk(e)y can be distilled from either grain or malted barley etc. So strictly speaking Whisk(e)y can be all of the above suggestions

I'm not a big whiskey drinker at all, but I work in an Irish bar at the moment so I deal alot with it.

I'm not going to tell which whiskeys are great and which are terrible since I don't know and people all have difirent tastes.

But just do me one thing, don't mix good whiskey's.

Our house whiskey is Grants or Jameson, depending on if the order comes in as Whiskey (Then its Jameson) or Scotch (Then its Grants).

We have one regular customer who comes in and drinks Middleton (a quiet expensive Irish whiskey) with coke. This costs him atleast twice as much as it would cost him to drink Jameson with coke, and there is nearly no taste difirence, since the coke overpowers most of the taste.

A week ago he was in, and I gave him a "Middleton and Coke", "on the house". What I really did was give him a Scotch coke, aka a Grants coke. This was his first drink, not only was it not middleton, it wasnt even Irish whiskey it was scotch, and he couldnt tell the difirence. This guy drinks this every weekend and he couldn't tell the difirence.

So people, especially those who drink Blacklable coke, stop! Save your money! More than likely your getting Redlable if the barman is lazy and second you wont taste the difirence and its cheaper for you. And trust me the bar aint loosing money by you drinking cheaper drinks, since the margin is usualy equal on all the spirits.
