Where in Gods name is that? The cheapest i have seen is 10 € a litre in greece (still VERY cheap compered to norwegian prices; like 46 €)

Thx for the recomendations this far :)

Used to be able to get 1ltr of Vodka in Bulgaria for 50p (less than 1euro) but that was a few years ago, still I bet you can easily get a bottle for under 5 euro today.

Alot of places are now following the US way, 21+... American-Wannabe idiots =< Though all the smaller/privatly owned stores is 18+ which is good.

Where?

A lot of places have that over 21 poster, but that just means if you LOOK under 21 they will id you for being 18. Haven't found anywhere but posh bars that are over 21 on booze :fluffle:

Do you guys mix whisky with Coce? I have never tried that, it dosnt sound to good (i stick to Rum and coce when it comes to Coca Cola and alcohol ) . I sometimes mix it with a little bit of water, to boost the "whisky taste"

Never with coke, that is a sin as you over power the flavour. Nice to see you drink it properly, either neat or with a bit of water.

Yes that is what i always have done, wonder why so many mix it with Cola, have never tried it so cant say its crap. But as stated earlier a bit of water is indeed good for the flavour

there is only one whiskey i really like, and i have no idea what its called.

it was a one off batch thing, brewed on a little island somewhere near the north of england or something. stored in oak barrels and left in the open air to take thrashings off the sea and soak up the sea air goodness.

if you ever want something like this, goto "the whiskey shop", although the only one i know of is in the metro centre.

it burnt like a bitch but tasted so damn good. i was also tipsey off a little shot and it cost about £10 for 200-300ml. it was a while ago so i dont totally recall.

Is this a whiskey or bourbon/whiskey thread?

'cause i like jack daniels, but it ain't a whiskey. Much like southern comfort, it's a bourbon.

Royal Salute is a whiskey one should drink, 21.

Sorry, English and languanges in general was never my strong side :)

Ahh I was only joking :)
Irish Whiskeys have the E
Scotch Whiskys have no E
Being Irish I tend to use the E spelling

yes that sounds great. Have just been to Rhodes now so cant afford a holliday right now ,but Scotland might be the next place i whant to travel

Ooh, where abouts in Rhodes did you go? I've got a week booked for early september, staying in Trianda in a 4* hotel on a cheapy deal :D

Ironically, both flight and accommodation were booked through Thomson, but not as a package deal, and we've got it nearly half as cheap.

We were in Rhodes city, we lived in a crappy hotel (2*) but it was just next to the bar street, the bar street is awesome. A place you have to visit. And the nice thing about Rhodes (at least Rhodes city) is that its windy there, so you dont get barbequed by the heat.

Actually, our country, Norway, is quite nice. Most countries has a minimum of 21 years of age before being allowed to consume alcohol.

Oh, and yeah, whiskey is goooood!

in denmark you have to be 16 to buy :p

If you like your single malts, then try Islay whiskies such as Ardbeg, Laphraoig, Port Ellen, Lagavulin etc are the way you want to go. I'd also recommend Talisker, Oban, Glenlivet as well.

Those two, plus Talisker, are my faves of the distillery 'branded' Scottish whisky. There's also some really nice odd ones like Sheep Dip and, of course, Jamesons, which is Irish whiskey.

Strictly speaking, isn't JD a sour mash?

Properly on topic for a change. :)

Glenkinnchie 10yo is a very mellow lowland malt, one of my favourites.
Highland Park is from Orkney, a much more peaty malt, very nice.
Bowmore 12yo is much more mellow than most of the Islay malts, whcih tend to be a bit hardcore.
Glenmorangie 10yo is ok, nothing special though.
Johnny Walker Black Label is actually quite nice, even though it isn't a single malt. Very smooth drinking.

All the people who have suggested JD et al to someone asking about whisky are cretins. Its like someone asking about champagne, and telling them Lambrini is great.

I tend to enjoy a good whisky at times as well.

Irish whiskey seems a bit softer overall than the Scottish whisky, but I find both enjoyable. I can really recommend Oban and Cragganmore as two good single malts. If you want a bit milder one, try Dalwhinnie, it's very nice as well.

Stay away from the bourbon, sour mash, whatever stuff. Southern Comfort is doable, but stuff like Four Roses... bah, wouldnt even mix that with Coke.

Oh and Makers Mark was actually pretty enjoyable.

As for blended whisky, I've heard some are quite good. I usually just buy the cheap ones to mix it with Coke and if I want to drink it straight up, I get a single malt.
Funny thing I've heard: Most single malts are generally for export. In Scotland itself, blended is what most people drink. Can't say if it's true, seeing I'm not Scottish :)

Also try to variate a bit if you want. By adding a drop of water, you can change the flavour quite a bit, use pure water if possible. Also dont throw in ice with the good ones. It removes the taste, and the temperature drops, so you taste even less on top of that.

Best thing is just try to drink as many different ones as you can, then decide what you like best. I'm planning a trip to Scotland for a whisky trail sometime next month, something like that could also be an idea, or ask the liquor store for a whisky-taste-thingie, as soon as you are allowed to.

I think the age requirement should be lowered a bit really. I agree with the way Holland works at the moment. At 16 you can buy beer, whine and other low alcoholic beverages. at 18 you can buy the stronger stuff. In theory that is, it works a bit different in the real world. But let people experiment a bit with alcohol at a lower age. Rather see em get pissed and hop on their bike than see em get drunk and get into a car for example.

Hope you get to drink alot of whisky, real soon...

Lies. :p

If you go into a pub and ask for a whisky, you'll get given a cheap blend unless you ask for something specific. But that doesn't mean we drink blended whisky at home.

How true, you can't even compare the finest bourbon to a half decent 15 year old single malt from one of the smaller producers.

That happens almost everywere. In Rhodes i went out to taste the whisky on all the clubs and bars and most of them only had one bottle of whisky in the bar and that was not single malt i can asure. But a few places you got a 12 year old or older single malt :)

Thx for replies people. A lot of good whisky/whiskey :p have been recomended, some witch i have tasted and some witch i have not. Its kinda risky to buy a new bottle I havnt tried just in case its crap, but I have never tasted a single malt i didnt like, and single malt is the ones i enjoy the most so I guess my next bottle will be a single malt.

i'm a whisky fan big time, atm i am loving Glenmorangie burgandy wood finish very nice.

Got an obscure bottle when i was last up in scotland cant think of the name atm. Very sweet single malt, when i get home i will post the name

I always say for ppl drinking scotch for the first time STAY AWAY FROM BELLS AND FAMOUS GROUSE, if you drink them then you wont appreciate the flavour of real whisky
