too many of them around already... don't wanna end up like Italy now do we
and we're the ones who are or who are gonna have to be paying for their lives which will be alot, as they jsut wont die and the baby boomers are creeping into that category
Same goes for the child.CorNokZ said:Old guy.. He might end up with cancer and being treated for that his last 5 years and tapping alot of money by having this disease..
Same goes for the old man.But he [the child] might invent the cure for cancer with his education..?
or he might this and that..
If I hadn't spoken to any of them, I would believe the child would be more capable to inventing such a cure, because of the previous researchs, which the old man might have made, and research further and discover new stuff about cancer.. The old man has 5years to research.. The little boy has a lifetimenoblok said:Same goes for the old man.
Yes, but those are just odds. If you got to choose between two kids of exactly the same age: one has an IQ of 100, the other has 101 and you're given no further information. Would you decide to shoot the kid with the IQ of 100 "because he has more chance to invent a cure for cancer"? Probably not. If this small chance doesn't matter, then... (analogue with the age-reasoning).CorNokZ said:If I hadn't spoken to any of them, I would believe the child would be more capable to inventing such a cure, because of the previous researchs, which the old man might have made, and research further and discover new stuff about cancer.. The could be the other way around too?noblok said:Yes, but those are just odds. Exactly, so it is incorrect to use it as an argument for either.CorNokZ said:The could be the other way around too? The old man is a useless twat and the little boy is a genious?
I didn't say you shouldn't kill the old man. Maybe you should. Stating that there is a brighter future for the child is once again based upon odds and on all odds a reasoning analogue to the previous ones can be applied. Who you decide to kill has to do with the symbolic value you attach to an old man and a child. It has little to do with relevant qualities. Why can't we get to kill the old man? There is a brighter future for the small one!
I choose to kill the old man due to the fact he has lived a whole life, and I think the child should have the exact same optionnoblok said:Exactly, so it is incorrect to use it as an argument for either.

Interesting point. So the argument is based upong the life they have already had, rather than what they've still got left to live. Then again, the old man may have had a miserable life up untill now, while the child may have already lived 8 enjoyable years.CorNokZ said:I choose to kill the old man due to the fact he has lived a whole life, and I think the child should have the exact same option

you aren't god to choose who lives or dies, period
The old man probly got laid, the young boy probly didn't.. Give him a chance atleastnoblok said:Interesting point. So we're back at the odds and arbitrary borders.CorNokZ said:The old man probly got laid, the young boy probly didn't.. Give him a chance atleast![]()
