I just had to do my paper round in it.

Horrible conditions. It seems that under the snow is just a thick layer of ice. About 3-4 times I had tried to turn the corner and literally skidded a couple of feet and landed on my ass.

Not fun :(

But no school! YAY! ^^

Like i said in general, I'm sick and tired of this winter "wonder" land allready. Finland is a bit different i guess.

Also pointed out;

What I don't get is this "Oh it snows, emergency! Don't leave home!" thing alot of countries have

Sometimes it's been snowing like sparkles from fifi's arse here, with temps down to near 40-50 celcius, windfactors to that and still noone even thinks about skipping work. Even pre-schoolers rough it up.

Snow is a rare event in alot of England. Thus we try to milk this rare event to hell & back! ^^

But...umm...hat, gloves, scarf(optional) and a cup of coffe?

That's about the preparation you need to walk to school/work :eek7:

Or do ALL english people live a 100 miles in the forest away from work?

ok broken down;
we never really get snow (this is the second time in about 3 years if memory serves me right) where we have had enough to make a snowball, so when it snows heavily there are insufficient provisions to deal with it as it only happens once in a blue moon.
So only heavily used roads get gritted etc..

Finland regularly gets snow, so its economically viable to buy the provisions to deal with it

Yes yes, roads are jammed etc. That's not at all hard to understand.

But what i was wondering is that can't people walk?

In my defence, my school is 7-8 miles away so that's a no-go for me :D

Yes, that's an accceptable defence :D

If you don't have someone who is willing to drive a car there. Which funnily enough most finnish people do with first snow :D

Problem with us is you get the weather warnings etc. from the Met Officer who state 'do not use the roads unless you absoluotely have to.' Most of us look at that in the context of 'only in dire emergencies,' which obviously school etc. isn't.
