One thing that does bother me though, when Euro gamers already had a widely established IRC network (Quakenet), Why did NGUK choose to join a separate one? It clearly fragments an already fragile UK gaming community.

Having built and run the Demon NL gaming and currently helping run the Demon UK service (and soon to be helping run the Barrysworld service) I also thought it's extremely petty using the space to always get to the top of the server list. Seems to me if you need to use tricks like that you're not all that confident in your service and/or the community. If the rest of the UK gaming ISP community was so petty, we'd end up with fights to get to the top and ludicrous server names.

Personally I think that in doing what they do, nguk demonstrate an extraordinary ammount of foresight.

When I was developing NinjaMOD, nguk were the company who offered me a beta server to test on. Sure it was just a side-machine in their office, running over their office T1, but it was a start, and allowed me to beta-test and balance the mod to the point it's at today.

Now nguk run 2 32-player NinjaMOD servers, both of which are full more or less 24/7, and I have received requests for the mod from NGI, Jolt, and several US server-providers, without instigation from me.

Interestingly, I sent a mail to Barrysworld about a week ago, asking if they would be interested in hosting a server, so far I have received no response, not even a negative one, which has surprised me.

It is possibly this level of community support, foresight, and involvement, more than any underhanded method which ensures nguk maintain their position at the top of the server lists. At least that's why they're top of mine.

Fair enough, I'm not suggesting that the only reason their servers are busy is because of the server name. It just struck me as a petty and unnecessary trick. I've not played much on their servers so I wouldn't presume to suggest whose are better.

As for the lack of response from Barrysworld, having not started working for them yet I wouldn't try and give you an explanation. Once I am working, feel free to bug the hell out of me on issues like that

Firstly wtf is NinjaMOD cos i've never heard of it.

Secondly if NGUK are so confident about the popularity of their servers I'm sure there can't be any reason why they don't take away the spaces..... unless of course they aren't confident.

Btw there might be a reason or two why barrysworld might not be so confident about 'there' service. Despite there glossy front end, this is about the worst place a so called newbie could wish to play. The hardcore is 'not' the majority, barrysworld im sure know this all too well. The atitudes taken towards newish people/players here is a joke. Most people here have there head stuck up there ass, and belive there better than others. I could site many cases over these message boards where that has proven to be the case

They have always been there for me, untill a few days ago when I could no longer see them on the euro list. I have tried refreashing the list quite a few times over the last couple for days but only some of the league servers are there.

BTW, Do you think people really sort there server list by name? I think you will find most people sort by ping and then population. Thats the reason I usually play on NGUK servers (apart from recently becoming a public admin). They have always given me a better ping than any other UK based gisp with any game. I also play on wireplay tac-ops. They usually appear near the bottom of the list but people still use them.

Barrysworld rock as well, I just don't understand why people have favouritize (is that a word? ) these services in this way. It like kids in a playground. Sorry.

I live in Shrewsbury and commute to Staffordshire Uni. I've bin doing Business IT, but I'm hopping courses next year onto Interactive Entertainment Technology to flex my game coding muscles a little.



Mystic G, my best advice as far as NinjaMOD goes is to do a quick filter using ur in game server list, and hop onto one of the servera, no download required, just connect, play and enjoy. The running version is beta-4 but beta-5 is approaching completion and will be available for offline play/ hosting.

He suggested you check out playing the mod. There's no client download, doubtless there is a server side only part to the mod.

To answer your points:

1) Website - Not finished yet Kma_MANTIS is working on it right now, hopefully it will be finished VERY soon. The in-progress can be viewed at www.clan-kma.com/ninjamod I believe.

2)Server Files - The server files will not be available for general download and hosting until the next version is released. For now the only people who have them are me and nguk. This is because we dont want several different versions of the mod in circulation, I hope you can understand.

For now, the only way to play it is to join a server and try it out.
