When I was younger I managed to get myself arrested *IN* a police station, the day before I had to go back to school for the final year of GCSE's (end of holidays piss up). I do fear what the karma police will manifest for me, should I ever become a mother.

I take it I'm the only one who found school to be the most abysmal time I've ever endured. College was better but still not great.

Being an adult is good sure theres all the shit stuff bills/mortgages/car etc. but if there is something you want to buy you can[\I] buy it, you wanna go on holiday and get away from it all you can do that to. There are even companies for the heavy workers were they pay your bills organise all the boring shit so you don't have to.

Sounds good to me :)

Ragghh dont talk about college, we must have the dumbest fucking admin people that ever lived. They made all the class room numbers on our time tables wrong, teacher dont turn up cos they cant find us (cos they put a different room number on there time table) we stand around for an hour only to be told "the lectruer doesnt seem to be coming, goto the cafeteria or something", we are assigned to class rooms with no computers ( we r a fucking advanced IT class for crying out loud! what good is it with no computers)

grr

Uh, is it because IT has very little to do with computers?

Oh n3wbie you have mistakenly taken my opinion on College being based on the educational element. :p

Our college was just as bad if not worse, which made it good in that I could go home after only walking in the building 10mins earlier, or spend an entire day not doing anything :)

Edit: oh PR. i also forgot to add they decide to add 3 hours to friday, cos they 'missed' it out of the time table, fucking marvelous.

I'm serious, you can very easily pass IT without ever using a computer

ok you come tell our lecturers that they should draw every single step we need to take on a board rather than we just click a few times, im sure they are gonna listen. also, how is practical work, about computers, even possible with out (yes you guessed it) a computer? maybe you can learn just by reading, but some cant (i.e. me) i learn much better by doing it. for example - programmring. i can learn it much easier by typing it out, compiling it then debugging it all rather than just from writing it down a pieace of paper. why learn that way if we never will use it in real life work? you could just say you can learn eevrything just by writing it out without using equipment, but its gonna be ten times harder than you want it to be.

edit - also, say in a test you have something very basic like "Circle the button that does what ever" how you gonna know what button does what ever if you had never even seen it before?

I have no idea what course you are studying, but it's clearly not IT. Programming isn't assesed, and none of your tests will ask you about what button does what.

Your coursework will be a solution to a project, and you will not hand in the actual project. Instead you will hand in a report on the processes involved in providing a solution. You will detail the problems, potential solutions, data flow etc.. You will receive no marks for providing a solution.

Your tests will be about IT concepts, layer models for OS, ease of use, data flow, database concepts, never about software beyond an abstract view.

Using a computer is generally a hinderance (with the exception of typing up work) to IT, because you will end up thinking about specifics instead of generalities like they are after.

If you want to go onto work with computers, IT is definitely not required, in fact most places will rightly so regard it as rather mickey mouse. If you want to do a subject with any kind of bearing upon using a computer, do programming.

Yes, you dont know what course im taking, so what you have said is completley wrong. So, for the sake of it, i will tell u the units i have to do and how they are assesed

Presenting Information - assesed on portfolio evidence
ICT Serving organisations - External assesment
Spreadsheet Design - portfolio evidence
programming - portfolio evidence ( see whay it says here scooba, its assesed, but no according to you its wrong so the examining board and teachers have got it wrong i bet, even though the exam board sets the course out)
the interenet: systems and services - external assesment
managing and devloping websites - portfolio evidence
system instalation and configuration - external
system analysis - portfolio
database design - portfolio
And 3 other units to be decided next year.

and cleary, it is IT, i dunno who the fuck you think you are when you think i dont even know what i enrolled for, i enrolled for AVCE I.C.T. and thats exactly what im doing. AVCE meaning Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education which gives me the equivalent of 2 A levels. And why do you think i dont need this for the job i want? Do you live in my brain, have you spoke to the people i have spoke to? Do you even know what occupation i want? Do you even know if i want to goto Uni? Oh maybe you do, seen as you think you know every thing else about what i do.

Not experienced in computers and network configuration to be a network admin? ok what ever you say because clearly you know everything, knowing that would only hinder a person from becoming one of them now wouldnt it. lets just go get some crack head bum off the streets, he will be better because he isnt hinderd because he never learnt IT.

Do you seriously think computer engineers dont need to know anything about IT because it will hinder them? they dont need to know how to use a computer or anything? what ever..

Edit: ooh and you have read the mark scheme for each of these units have you? well you think you have because you think you know how it will be assesed, but your wrong again there becausei have read them, i know how its assesed, but surely thats wrong because you know everything right?

Oh dear, another GNVQ spaz, I was talking about real courses, there's a queue over there somewhere with Slicer in.

I'd recommend you speak to the network admins here, I think they'll probably put you straight as to how they got the job (hint GNVQ qualifications are NOT the way)

But hey, why listen to advice, I've certainly not been through it, or even worked as an NA

but you still didnt answer a single question did you? is it because you know your wrong? and id rather listen to people ive had the experience to work with than some random user off a BW forum.

Could you kindly fuck off back into whichever spasticated hole you crawled out from please. Man, we've had some shit lamers on this board before now, but you are almost unbearably shit.

Hey Scooba, maybe you shoulda tell all this to the engineer i worked with who was contracted for near on £80 per hour that he did the wrong thing.

Well if he did Management Consultancy he could be earning 1200 quid a day. So he did the wrong thing.

When an issue is raised, it is discussed. I offered you advice, because believe it or not, it's better for everyone if you don't waste your time.

Computer Engineers are hardware based, this means you do a degree in electronics, and then specialise.

Network Admins are hardware/software based, this means you learn how the systems work, and then get onto a job as a junior/assistant, and hopefully work your way up.

Neither of these will be helped by having an NVQ, an NVQ will not do you any favours when it comes to applying for a degree course, regardless of what you may be told about what they are worth, very few universities care about them, because they are practical based. A university wants to see that you know how to work, and apply yourself. Not that you can turn a computer on, design a website, or whatever. The same applies in the working world.

I'd recommend you look up posts by Mr B on this subject, and I'm fairly sure that Summo has posted on it as well.

I dont get an NVQ, i get an AVCE. I dont see how doing what im doing now is wrong when ive seen working examples of it. And by the way, ive already seen what i needed for uni, and what im doing is right. an NVQ is either intermediate, or foundation, is done in school and isnt worth any A levels or points for university. AVCE gives 2 A-levels and enough points for university, they are not the same.

Correct me if I am wrong but I understand that AVCE ICT stands for:

"Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education in Information, Communication of Technology"

Not exactly an IT course, an HNC or HND in a certain subject and going from there as Scooba says sounds a better bet but hey.

*shrug*

Yes, but as ive already said, i am in COLLEGE not university, you do HND etc in university so i dont know why you keep bringing them up.

D

you do bachelors or masters at uni

you do HND's at college usually

T

No results for HND at manchester college.

Well then, you search for HND at a university course web site and you get this

http://www.tees.ac.uk/prospstud/courses_ft2003_search.cfm

BUT THEN put HNC into oxford college search thingy ma bob, and you get this

Information Technology Advanced Vocational Certificate of Education

WHICH IS WHAT IM DOING

http://www.oxfordcollege.ac.uk/search.asp?searchterms=HNC

your saying, no dont do that, but then contradicting your self by saying "you should be doing that"

 cant be arsed now, i know im doing the right course, nuff said.

AVCEs are in fact the new GNVQs.

They are worth fuck all (as previously said).

ICT is also worth fuck all.

:D another fine example of Scooba and Bodhi making new forum members welcome.

Listen N3wbie they have their tongues so far up each others arse that your views will never be accepted by them. As for the others theyll try to back them up so that they too can have a taste of their shite.

Just dont take it seriously its all so laughable and its what makes me stay at this forum :)
