I dont greatly rate the england side but neither do I rate France so I think it will be close either way.

Its going to be horrible to watch if you're English, just relentless French attacks and the odd England counter.

You'd think the Polish police knew how to handle a bunch of hooligans, but apparently not

I was amused to see the lad they were arresting got away.

I hate the police. I'm not a fan of football hooligans either, but I fucking hate the police. Comes from being friends with a couple and related to another.

Can be very nice people when A) they're not at work and b) have understood that I won't stand for being bossed about...

Its not a divine right for us to support them - after the total non-appearance at the World cup they need to prove that they are willing to work as a team before I would support them again.

It always is tbh - I dont think I have ever watched them thinking they were in control of the game.

Nah, there have been moments; Euro 96 (even in the semi-final you felt England were as good as the Germans), the qualifying group at the 2002 WC, Portugal 04. Its not all been squeaky bum time with England, but things really started to go to hell around the 06 WC, and except for the Croatia "revenge" battering (and the early false optimism of the Capello era), I don't think I've enjoyed an England game since then.

I'm seeing a lot of English people support Spain and buy Spain shirts etc.. instead of England... it is an absolute piss take... I bet if we win the Euro's too (much stranger things have happened) then they will be supporting England again all of a sudden.

Plus like I said before, this squad has about 13 players in which were not in the 2010 england squad, plus a new manager and loads of new backroom staff... what does 2010 even matter at the moment..

I could not care less about the past, it's the future which is important and this set of players have my full support :)

You can not care about football (in which case get the fuck out the thread) or you can think England are shit, but you should still support them and want them to do well. Being born and raised in London with no link to the north and supporting Manchester City or United or Liverpool is bad enough but being born in England and supporting spain or holland is glory hunting of the worst kind......... I wouldn't even speak to some one who did that.... don't get me wrong I like certain other teams. and if England go out I'll probably support Russia or Germany as they are good to watch, but while England are still in everyone else can get fucked

That is taking the piss but it remains to be seen if this group of players will act as though representing their country or will revert to drinking holiday mode as at South Africa.

If you support them unconditionally your a mug - if the players are taking the piss and treating it like one big jolly like in South Africa why on earth support that?

Twaddle.

I would like England to win but I couldn't give two fucks about the country.

Patriotism? Fuck that. I owe England nothing. I'm unpatriotic and proud :)

I support them ofc but "ololol we are going to win easy mates" is a tad unrealistic. The whole set up of the FA is wrong, the player attitudes are wrong and the squad selection is wrong. A fan base who seem to think England are actually a good side and deserve to do well, when they clearly aren't and haven't been for years.

We have Downing who is terrible and Milner who is only a part time footballer, Rooney is suspended and we have a seemingly make shift central defence. Terry will probably embarrass himself by either playing like a Sunday leaguer like he did at the world cup or get himself sent off.

That bird that sat on the opposition cross bar at the world cup said it all really, I think it was there for about 20 minutes watching us not come close to having a shot.

I want them to win and I would love them to win the tournament, I just can't see it happening.

I support them but as above it's the way it is run that annoys me. One that riles me is that unless you play for a 'big club' then you seldom get noticed. This is simply not the case in any other country bar here. Hell Italy had two players for Serie B in there initial squad.. one of whom has gone to the World Cup.

Our setup is a joke, when players get picked on performance rather then reputation, I'll give a shit.

13 different players... we do have a good side today.. even though Carroll isn't going to start (I need to win that £255 !)..

France have not been beaten in 2 years or something ridiculous though.. it isn't going to be easy but all good runs come to an end eventually :) their squad isn't that good either..

I am a bit surprised Carroll isn't starting though.. Roy normally loves his big men upfront  I thought it would have been Carroll + Welbeck upfront and Ox/Young on the wings :/ but it looks like we are just going to play fast counter attacking football instead..

I can understand not supporting England given how little they've given back to the fans over the last few years, but that doesn't mean I could ever actively support any other country's team. That's just wrong. Its England or nothing. (And I get pressure to support Ireland on the grounds that I live here and my kids are Irish. Ain't going to happen).

Twaddle.

In general terms, I agree with you, except in Sport. Its the one place where patriotism is not only acceptable, but healthy (asuming your brand of sporting patriotism doesn't include stabbing foreign fans in the neck that is).

Until yesterday, Ireland had a similar record...

I think France have a slightly stronger team on paper today but you never know what team is going to show up for each country until they get on the field so I think it's hard to call a winner.

Really like the call putting the OX in though. The kid just has "it".

Been listening to TalkSport all morning and they seem very sure the Ox will be playing like, let's hope so.

Read the Euro 2012 piece in Wizz Air's inflight magazing on the way back to Blighty this morning. They think our squad is overrated and over the hill and without any stand out players. They also think Hodgson was a very uninspiring choice of manager and we'll be going home after the group stage.

Pretty much every pundit on the BBC says the same. Nothing surprising there.

They should be.. they are both right that it's a pretty average France team in midfield compared to previous years.
