We don't know if Zion was destroyed.

We got told that the commander's counter attack failed due to the "possessed" bloke.

I remember ages ago, soon after the first one was released, there was quite a bit of talk about them finding out that they are inside a matrix inside a matrix.

I'm going with that, or that the Architect has put them into another part of the Matrix.

Either that or when Neo met the Architect and decided to not save just a few people, some kind of new "link" was made between him and the whole system controlling the Matrix.

OK OK.. so I don't actually have a clue, but i'm allowed to speculate :)

Bear in mind, they left it at a very very precise point. I don't think Zion has been destroyed as yet, but I think it well might be, or there might be more in the 3rd film to do with stopping that main attack, specifically seeing as Neo can now "sense" or affect the sentinels.

I quite like the matrix within a matrix theory (to explain neo's powers and the coma) but then where would it stop? Even 25 films down the line you'd still be going, right we've had the 15th matrix within a matrix, but I BET THIS ONE IS STILL A MATRIX!
So I'm not tooooo sure I like it, but it is plausible for what they are going to do next.

Or the other big one.. it was a bluff from the Architect and now Neo's coming into his true power, the attempted attack on Zion will fail.

Who knows?

All I know is, I'd love to see what they're going to do next.

Everyone's going to have their own opinions on it, I liked the film a lot (although Keanu Reeves is a bit bad at portraying emotion) and I'll go see the next one (probably even get this on DvD when it comes out).

only thing everyone seems to agree on is that Keanu Reeves is a shit actor :p question is ... who would you prefer to have played neo?

I myself noticed a racial element to the story. Anyone else notice that the overwhelming majority of people in Zion were black while almost everyone in The Matrix was white?

I think the 'real world' with Zion etc is in fact also a matrix to conrol the humans, thats why neo could defeat the robot in the 'real world'.

The Matrix trilogy has a very racial undertone. It also has a rather religious flavor as well, although not as apparent.

I'm surprised why Repent won't post his thoughts on the racial story. Getting flamed can't be that bad.

The Architect said something along the lines of "it wil take u time to adjust seems u have come into the Source". I think this changed Neo in some way where he is able to effect the mahcines in the real world.
As for Zion been destoryed it hasnt. that was the counter attack that was fumbled. but it has 24 hours left until the machines reach Zion and wipe everyone out.

The previous Neos thing i believe is that the machines LET zion be created to give humans that sub consious choice, otherwise the matrix would collapse, like the originals.
The 5 previous neos never fell in love with anyone so i presume thats why the others chose the other door to rebuild the Zion, this Neo has chosen to save trinity instead of Zion which wasnt what the machines intended, as they are now drawn into a final conflict.
As for neo been "the one" and that hes not the first, maybe its something very simple.... Evolution. neo has evolved to be able to affect his surroundings in the matrix, and now after entering the True source further enhancing him.

hmm some other stuff

smith in matrix 1 - when he's interoggating morpheus he takes off his ear piece (severed & given to neo to imply what? that he's unplugged like neo is now?)

also smith keeps talking about getting out of this place, the smell etc...if he's part of the matrix why is he acting so much like a human - ie he has feelings - he hates neo, why does he want to get out so bad?

is smith another human plugged into the matrix but just bein fed another programme different to the other still trapped humans?

I kinda liked this film apart from 3 tiny, eensy, weensy things:

1) Sex/Dance scene went on for far too long. They could have condensed that into a minute or so and it would still convey the message effectively. I remember watching it for a couple of mins and then spending the following couple of minutes looking at my watch and muttering under my breath.

2) Neo/Trinity luvey duvey, smooshy wooshy scenes were totally unnecessary. One of these scenes would have sufficed. We KNOW they are in love...the directors don't need to cram this fact down our throat every 20 minutes.

3) I thought the film was riddled with 'dime store philosophy'...which I HATE! In fact, the word 'hate' doesn't even begin to cover the depths of my animosity towards philosophy of this nature. When Neo meets the Oracle I could feel myself mentally projecting a pair of hands around her throat to throttle the very life out of her. JUST GIVE HIM A STRAIGHT ANSWER!!!

I don't think Zion was trashed in the film. If I recall correctly, the guy that Smith infected was the only survivor of some ships that were out on patrol or something.

I have a sneaking suspicion that 'the real world' will be another Matrix based illusion but I really hope it isn't.

Ah well, 5 months to go.

They werent out on patrol, they were the attempt to counter attack the sentinels, this has been said 3 times already in the thread but I like you so I wont mention that... bugger.

Also someone pointed out to me that the machines are still machines and they can gain nothing fro actually surviving as they have no wants or needs so perhaps they are being run by some more humans. This is a theory I like as its different but Im not too sure about its validity.

Ah well, 5 months to go.

Meh, counter-attacking ... patrolling ... wasn't really my point. I was just saying that I didn't think Zion had been destroyed. :p

There are so many possible twists and turns in this movie that I don't think it is worth spending too much time speculating. Like Morpheus said in the first movie, "...how deep does the rabbit hole go?".

...or something like that. Please don't bother to correct me if I am wrong because I really don't care. :p

about the racial tones in the matrix movies:

very good observation; in the matrix you see mainly white people, but in zion you see alot of colored people. i believe the reason is this:

the architect explains about the 1% that doesn't accept the matrix and 'refuses' to be plugged in. hence the machines can't have them making the system unstable and creates zion. i mean, why would a rich white person driving his expensive car to his nice job question the excistence of the matrix? however someone less fortunate may very well start to question the reality of things. hence zion being mostly colored people. the corporate mofo guide touches into this subject.
