Hey, if you haven't seen it, go watch it and then come back. This thread is for discussing the movie, so it will be ruined if you read on.

Please keep future speculations spoilered though

I think Star Wars has had its time, they need to stop this banal cat and mouse plotline.

Started off fine, ended fine, monumentally boring in the middle, left feeling ‘meh’. Not a patch on Rogue One. The whole “Snoke not seeing the rotating lightsaber beside him when he can see everything else” made me literally facepalm in the cinema.

As in, shoved out of an airlock, in space? That would be grand.

Will watch it, will enjoy the pops and whizes. I think people that think Starwars ever had an actual story (in the films) must have watched different films.

With a few miner dialogue and set changes the last one might as well have been a highlights version of the first 3.

I find it amazing that you're arguing about how people are wrong about Star Wars' story (and therefore by extension how they feel about the new film) when you haven't seen it.

You just like to tell people they're wrong don't you? o_O

Well Scouse loved Bladerunner and didnt like Last Jedi, so its fair to conclude hes looking for something different in a movie.
I think they will always have to be seperate, I cant imagine a movie with a mix of deep and frivilous, maybe the Matrix tried.
Im still waiting for a proper Aliens 3...Im starting to think I'll have.to settle with Avatar.

I loved the original Star Wars films. Still do.

Have you seen it @Job or are you pulling a raven too?

I saw it last night, in the same way The Force Awakens was a rehash of the original Star Wars, I feel that this is the Empire strikes back version 2.0. That said I still loved it (yes I don’t quite understand the Leia in space thing, maybe she Starlord in disguise) but it was good fun and that’s what matters to me anyway.

BB-8 was great again too

Just watched it. Spent most of it hovering between annoyed and bored with the odd “wtf is this shit?” thrown in. Quite liked the last 10 minutes or so though.

Was a bit sad that after 40 years I’ve clearly reached my Star Wars limit, just at the point my son will probably get into it and we’re going to be drowning in spin-offs and sequels.

...and toys and other merchandise...which was basically the reason for its existence after the first one (4th? I have literally lost interest) the one with the hammy acting and minimal story progression.

This is for people who have actually seen the movie. Clearly you have far from lost interest, as you have entered and commented on a thread which was rather specifically stated to be for people who had actually seen the movie

Your opinion is welcome once you've seen the film

You do understand, at the basic level, that I was not talking about the new film...the new film that I quite clearly said I would likely enjoy. And whether or not I thought the first three, made 30odd years ago is completely irrelevant to my enjoyment of this film.

right?

You do get that?

right?

/uses force to glide through space

”bombers” that have to fly 10 feet above a space ship at about 5 mph to drop their bombs.

The casino planet. Just...what?

Apparently flying a ship at warp into stuff really fucks things up. Who knew? So why didn’t they do that with the two earlier ships they pissed away? And why haven’t they been using the same technique to destroy every big dumb battlestation the empire has built for the last 40 years?

Let’s crash this shuttle through this rapidly closing door. We don’t know what’s on the other side and might crush the last of the rebellion to a bloody pulp, but we’ll be inside, so that’s OK right?

Porgs. Fucking porgs.

It just went on and on.

It would seem from your posts that Star Wars has done a Family Guy episode.

Anyone else think Snoke looks like a bald Mary Berry?

I think the ftl thing is obvious. They destroyed Snoke's ship, but compared to a Death Star that thing was still tiny. You don't want to keep flying your capital ships into death stars because you'll just lose all your capital ships - the Empire will still have all its resources, minus a damaged Death Star.

I enjoyed much of it, but I think there are too many threads going on. Or maybe not, I don't know. It's a middle film, I hope there's a reason why so many things were left unexplained.

This, I often think the middle films in trilogy’s are setting up for the 3rd, and when watched as a whole, they make more sense. I liked it and I’m going to see it again in between Christmas

I hope there'll be an explanation of where Snoke came from, who he was. It doesn't have to be the whole story, for instance, Palpatine's early years were only very briefly covered but that's enough. How was he so powerful? How was he so scarred? I was guessing in the film that perhaps his powers were some kind of illusion, that he didn't have access to the force. Perhaps he didn't create that link - perhaps it existed for other reasons that he was trying to mask with his own story.
