The Ipod!!

Some of you are still living in the 80's with regards to Apple's products. The iPod reinvigorated a dead mp3 market, it has been the leader since it's inception and remains the leader. Why do you think ALL other mp3 players rated against it, because it is the best.

MP3 is a shit format anyway... It does support AAC but there atleast was some problems with tagging the tracks, with Ipod being the culprit of bad behaviour. Dunno if that's been fixed yet.

I used both ipod and the iriver iPH-120 and must say that I found the iriver a much nicer product (
it has : ogg support, digital in-> mp3 conversion on the fly, dictaphone function, SRS sound is ace, and ebook reader build in (keeps me busy on the train)

The iPod has 2 modes one for data, and one for music. The music mode is invisible, but there are alot of cracks out there to navigate the music mode and swap files if you have to.

The data mode operates exactly like an external hard drive, you can either connect with firewire 400, which is a sustained 400 mb/sec throughput, or USB2 which peaks at 460mb/sec.

There are hundreds of iPod apps from dj'ing off them, to simple text readers, photo assemblers and games. There are loads of accessories for it, which even make it capable of being your home hi-fi.

There is an entire culture built around the iPod, which is not the case with any other player brand. You don't see iWannabe users smiling at each other on the tube, or exchanging headphones, swapping playlists etc. When people see another player, they don't say ooooo look a feature rich player, they say look, another person too cheap to buy an iPod :D

I will be interested to see what Sony's new range of players looks like, but currently, everything else just looks like a cheap plastic imitation or wannabe imo. The only thing that I have seen that looks remotely desirable is the PSP renders.

Sound Quality

How's the sound quality? Does it depend on the source? Comparable to CD or MD?

/em watches in horror as the word "exactly" is violently abused before the eyes of bewildered forum browsers.

was looking to buy one but decided against it because of the atrac crap.

I got about 10 gig of vbr mp3's and another 5 gig in ogg, it took me a fair bit to get all my cd's ripped (not to mention my lp's)

If sony thinks i am gonne do it all again because of their stupid DRM, they got another one comming.
I am verry happy with my multi codec players, only thing i want more on my hd player is bluethooth or wi-fi so i dont have to bother with all the cable crap.

ceapace is Ace's char, but on my acc :)

edit: Sony's OpenMG software does the conversion (mp3 -> atrac3) as you copy to MD, don't think it keeps a hardcopy on HD. But the best thing about it is the ability to do a mix album, i havent found an mp3 convertor that can do concerts / mix albums without a little break between songs, atrac seems to be able to... copy protection is bollocks just copy cd again (it sets counter to zero) if you really need a song on more than 3 MDs at once

ps. anyone got one that can?
