Too. Many. Dwarves. How am i supposed to keep track of those beardy f*ckers :D

Heard there might be a dragon, i always like a good dragon, so this is probably better then LotR(which wan't that epic to be honest *trollface*).

I read The Hobbit as a teenager and have forgotten most of the plot, but I'll never forget the hairs on the back of my neck standing up as Bilbo made his way down to the dragon's lair.

Can't wait for this :) Don't think it was the most thrilling trailer in the world but fingers crossed they nail it :)

And that's without Smaug.

I *so* want to know what the dragon is going to look like. I think in IMAX 3D the sense of scale will blow my tiny little mind. :D

dammit can't wait - read the book recently for the first time and although it seems a bit more tongue in cheek (one or two of the dwarves just don't seem quite right outside of a children's program) the story is a damned good one :D I like the continuity in the references to Frodo, Bilbo when he was older via the correct actor etc.

It's a kids book m8 - that's why :)

I like that they've not shied away from the songs - but I wish they weren't so solemn. I always tried to imagine a cheery party tune for 'em.

I grew up listening to the hobbit story book tapes as a kid. Fell asleep to them almost every night for years. Until my brother lost tapes 3, 4 and 7, 8, 9, 10.. it was on 16 tapes or something.. still didn't stop me, the story just got a bit more confusing ^^

Anyway, the songs were all in that and pretty eerie and solemn.. was pretty disturbing and freaky at times for the kids book it was.. doubt it still exists any more :)

I'm not sure what the point of my post was anymore :(

Exactly this. Looking forward to it, but the trailer was sort of 'meh' to me really

Yeah I wasn't terribly impressed with the trailer but I am still incredibly excited for the movie. LOTR was the Star Wars saga of 'my" generation.....I just hope the Hobbit doesn't have A Jar Jar :(

Lets see if I can make it for 4/4 - Seen all of these films so far with a girl, and 3 of them have fallen asleep. Current one actually likes LoTR, so she might break the chain.

Honestly can't wait, next December can't come faster enough.

Funnily enough I think it's "Ori" that made me think EXACTLY the same thing (the Jar-Jar) just because of the way he looks. Not really the sort of image I imagined dwarves to be.
Perhaps not quite Jar-Jar, nearer Odo from whichever of the star treks he was in.

Gaaah. Can't find my copy of the Hobbit now. Think I must have lost it in a move.

Will have to go and buy it again now, have a hankering for it!

Those who haven't read the book should bear in mind that it's a much less serious novel than the LOTR books. So much so that in his original draft, Tolkien had Bilbo "win" the ring in a little riddle game with Gollum. It was only when he wrote the sequels that they changed that.

Didn't he read it as a story he could tell his kids before they went to bed?

Either way I can't wait for this.. so much love for Tolkien works :D.

Ok, so my cousin wins. He's a bit naive bless him, and he's always ribbing me that Apple stuff is best and his iPhone is better than my blackberry. He's a wind up merchant, so I started taking this conversation with a pinch of salt.
I'll relay the convo as best as I can.

"A'ight - you know that piratebay site you told me about a while ago?"
"yeah"
"It's great- i just finished downloading The Hobbit!"
"Ok - right. That's available there is it?"
"Yeah - quality is brilliant!"
"I've been looking forward to that, What's the plot like?"
"It's brilliant - this group of dwarves go adventuring and meet up with wizards, elves and fat dwarves and plan to go to this volcano to destroy this evil ring"
"Right, so that's not the Hobbit, is it"
"Course it is, that's what it says"
"That's the first Lord of the Rings film - have you not read the books?"
"Books are for assholes - anyway its definitely the Hobbit"
"Ok, fair play - if you want to borrow the two sequels I have them on DVD."

Prannet. He takes me to task on everything and I find it hilarious. When he got his first iPhone I said "I've got about 6 of those at home" and he didn't believe it until he saw me ripping apart 2 to make a good one. Even then he said they were fakes :D I love knocking morons down a peg :D

I've got no preconceptions because I've tried to read the book never read the book through and never watched the animated version from x years ago. For the same reason, I've got no problem waiting for this to come out. Each of the LOTR films weren't bad in themselves, but as a trilogy, they were OMFG awesome.

Fingers crossed I get the extended bluray boxset of LOTR on Christmas Day. :)

not read it in a few years, but in sure he 'wins' it in the finally edition? he finds it first, then wins it for keeps in the riddle game.

Yeah I've not read it in a few years either but I also definitely remember the riddle game

I also don't really remember it being particularly light hearted?

Read it ,got an ancient edition in the cupboard...but....I can't help but think the casting Martin Freeman spoils it, I keep waiting for for Gervais to pop up and laugh at everything.
