I think Fight Club did a pretty fucking good job

Ending was totally different in the film than it was in the book. I also thought the book was way more violent.

The book is my all time fav and the film is quite high up my list as well so its all good.

Basically Leggy is right but its an awkward one because books are different in different peoples minds.

Hence there is room for improvement and it is feasable that someone else could do it better. Hence it is no catastrophe that Jackson isnt allowed to do The Hobbit. With any luck we will get someone that tries even harder to stay to the letter of the books, which many of us believe would have made for even greater movies.

Considering the effort and lengths they went to in order to achieve very high levels of detail and accuracy for so many little things, I would think that it is going to be extremely hard to surpass it.

The locations, the props, the casting, the overall design and look of everything, it all looked pretty much how it should do.

I've already explained a couple of reasons why sticking right to the books would have made for worse films. Books aren't always perfect or accurate in every way.

Very true, and a word for word adaption of the books would have been impossible or would have made for a bad movie experience, but still there is *alot* of things they could have done better *and* more true to the books in the movies, but instead they went for cheap gags, ninja-elf action, discontinouity etc

I thought the shining was rubbish but I hate King and I'm not a fan of Kubrick. 2001 didn't even come close . My opinion of course.

I don't doubt they did good jobs but were they perfect?

Well I just checked the history of 2001 and it appears that the film wasn't even based on the novel by Clarke. It was based on a number of his early short stories.

The novel was released after the film. Looks like it was written during the filming of the movie.

Name me a director that has done a 'perfect' job on any adaptation. Whether it be book, game or poem.

like a few here the lotr films were as good as can be, i read the books a while back but fucking felt tiresome reading thru some parts.

anywas perfect job of a graphic novel has to be Sincity. but the orignal author did get director credits for it even the directors guild threw a shit fit over it

I said this once in an oscar debate and Da Gaffer tore me apart. I'm sure at the time everyone agreed with him. I said they shouldn't have cleaned up and I'm still right to this day .

I enjoyed them. They are good fun. They are still overrated.

Ask Randal, he sums them up perfectly in 70 seconds (esp. the part where he dodges the gap).

Did I? I must have been feeling particularly combative that day Funnily enough, I've kinda changed my opinion of them. I enjoyed them on first viewing but I don't think they're the kind of films that stand up to repeat viewing; I tried to watch them recently and they bored me to tears. So yes, I'm definitely in the Randall camp now

The LOTR films were fucking dogshit. The second one was the most tedious load of bollocks I've ever seen in my life. I mean long films are fine , but at least make them fucking interesting.


Oh and Apocalypse Now was better than Heart of Darkness. And Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was better in film form than in the book, cos you didn't have to read Hunter S Thompson's drug addled prose with sentences that lasted about 13 times as long as they had to much like this one which is quite annoying I think you'll find I certainly do.
