That isn't the greatest film in the world.......

It is just a tribute.

Aliens here too, though I'm not much of a critic. I hated R&J, was almost like a stage-show. Same goes for Moulin; Baz's style of directing tends to leave me cold.

It was okay, if only for Ben Affleck's cameo. But no, it isn't in my top 10 list.

IMO Romeo & Juliet is not even as good as Moulin Rouge so it can't possibly be the greatest film ever.

I know it's a cop out but I have several films I regards as the BEST:

The Empire Strikes Back
Star Wars: A New Hope
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
Ferris Bueller's Day Off
The Lord of the Rings

The Legend of Fong Sai Yuk has to be a contender in my opinion.

Heat, The Usual Suspects, City Hunter (kids movie really, but fun, especially in the state I was in (See Xtro's thread for details)), and Taxi are all in my shortlist too.

Office Space is a top film. I didn't rate LOTR at all and I hated R+J(one of samm's favourite films though), for me its gotta be The Matrix, High Fidelity or Fight Club, as my favourite songs though it changes daily depending on my mood.

I'm sorry you guys have overlooked The Shaweshank Redemtion as I think this is one of the best films of all time.

It takes its time to develop the plot (it actually has a story!).

You actually get involved with the characters and the twists and clues only really become apparent at the end (on first viewing)

Maybe I'm a sucker for story telling but todays films just look like pop videos mostly.

The one Im hoping will become the best film ever, is of course The Lord of the Rings (as a completed film).

This has to be the ultimate in story telling and needs no more comment except have you seen the trailer?

so righ about all those things, LOTR will deffo be a contender, once it is all released, and the new trailer gave me goosebump. And not many films do that anymore.

Unless it's by Akira Kurasawa it should not be considered.

Heat, Leon, The Matrix, Fight Club, Gladiator, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars original trilogy.... Aliens saga :p

isn't the legend of fong sai yuk known more simply as "Jet Li's 'The Legend'"

Shawshank Redemption and The Exorcist.

Shawshank because it's a great story well told and well produced.
Exorcist because it is the only movie I've seen that has moved an audience so much. It's a little dated now but when I originally went to see it people were looking over their shoulders and around corners as they left the cinema. I also knew someone who went completely nuts for a year after seeing it.

Overall, I'm with the Aliens mob on this one.

But lumped in with this film is LoTR, The Crow, The Matrix and quite possible The One, although I havn't seen it yet. Also Dog Soldiers will be on my list as soon as I see it. Shawshank was fab, although I'm very concerned about Summo and his R&J fetish.
