I dunno, I think it's a big enough advantage to be competitive. It depends if Vettel can get past Rosberg at the start and pressure/pass Hamilton early. If he cant then it'll settle down and the mercs will have a chance to win.

Not sure - it's Paul that was seriously underweight, not the car. They should feed him up on burgers from the burger vans there to avoid a pit-start but even an F1 drivers wage will struggle to afford more than 2 burgers ;)

Lewis was in fucking god mode, awesome. As was Webber - a tie between those two for driver of the day.
Hah @ Vettel.
Hah @ Pirelli. Actually, I won't laugh too much, because it's fucking dangerous. They should gtfo of F1. And some of the teams (here's looking at you Ferrari and Lotus) blocked their attempts to change the tyre construction before this race. Silly cunts.

I don't blame Pirelli, lack of testing opportunities means its hard to develop the tires correctly.
The teams didn't want them to change tires ( it has to be unanimous unless its for safety reasons - which at this point I think you could argue ).

I do, wholly. Of course the FIA have to be involved in it too but the buck stops with Pirelli and they have the power to put their foot down and sort it out.

They are being made to look shit (which they are regardless of F1) and safety of drivers, staff and spectators is once again at risk. As Hamilton rightly said - does someone need to get hurt before they sort it out?

F1 would be doing better if they had a couple of Durex Extra Safe's wrapped around their wheels.

In all seriousness though, I'm pretty sure this is what Pirelli tyres were like last time they were in F1, bastard quick over 1 lap, bit usually shot by lap 5. Are people really shocked it's happened again?

Bring back the tyre wars imo. Give Michelin some fodder to make look silly again.

All on the same side and mostly the same position of the tyre, quite a few of them went near that corner too so kinda makes sense if it was that.

Pirelli have been given a difficult brief; there's a deliberate FIA policy of having tyres designed to "go off" quickly in order keep the racing interesting, but it looks like things have gone too far. Personally I have no doubt Pirelli could deliver F1 any tyres F1 wanted; its 90% political, 10% technical.

Apparently they have a new design ready to use that would have prevented the blowouts we saw yesterday, but a couple of the teams are dragging their feet and have blocked them.

Hamilton's former McLaren team-mate Jenson Button said: "If we keep these tyres, yes, we will have a safety issue. We were lucky that nothing worse happened. The reason why we have not got different tyres yet is because not all the teams have signed them off yet.

"From what I understand had we gone for a new construction we would not have had the catastrophic failures we had today. The nature of the circuit aggravates – the combination of kerbs and high speed corners. Whether that is a problem in Germany I wouldn't like to say."

It isn't really an excuse though, they are allowed to change the tyre design for safety reasons. If they want to change the construction for any other reason they need unanimous team support.
They didn't want to say "this is for safety" as it admits the current design is faulty.

Well, Pirelli are changing the tyre design. It looks as though the ghost of Steve Jobbs has taken residence in their management though, they're saying the tyres are fine, the teams are using them wrong...

Actually it has some merit.

They have operating windows on pressure and lean - the teams run them outside of their spec.

You, like many others, are however assuming this is something new.

They've been swapping tyres for as long as it's provided a benefit. They were doing it in the 80s to increase life whilst retaining benefits of warm, used tyres. Underinflation by certain amounts is hardly new either, I'd imagine that dates back. There's been no real problems before, it's just clear the tyres this time round aren't up to the *all round* strains of F1.
They do have a difficult brief but, and I will keep repeating this until done, the buck stops with them.
