The speed of electrons in a wire has nothing to do with the rate at which the mouse reports its position back to the PC... The data rate of the interfaces, available bandwidth and medium concerned are the factors which will ultimately influence lag and whatnot...

Irrelavent.

His original post was;

wireless = latency
latency = bad

Not X brand of mouse has latency.

I'm at home - this computer is in my room :( It's shared with the whole family (6 of us), though I have to concede that most of that is mine...

No, that's my Dad's - I just can't find where he's put the box...
Dad is a CM obsessive, he's played every major version of the thing - which I think takes us back by about a decade (CM1 was 1993 I think - he bought it for me with our first PC and 1994 updates). It has to be said, that is a scary long time to be playing one game - excluding a his occasional bash at Madden - I wouldn't like to try and guess where the disk for that is.. it'll be under something...

taken on the old mobile hence the crap quality. Not quite as crap as the carpet in my semi-converted loft though :)

USB hub = win

Speakers, however, = lose. They're really quite abysmal in terms of sound quality.

One of the things I'm eternally curious about is how it is that some people (let's indescriminantly call them "normals") and other people (let's just say "other people") manage to find that mouse so different. I have one and in constant use it's wonderful. Is it aliens?

The design either suits you or it doesn't. Personally, I've always found all logitech mice to be horrible.

Don't have anything against the design but the drivers are absolute crap imho.

In fairness the drivers have improved a lot in recent months. When I first got my MX700 I wasn't impressed, but then, I'd been using Microsoft drivers before and they are very good.
Personally, I can do everything I want with the Logitech drivers and the deign of them is abolsutely fine. The "Key Recording" feature (for buttons assigned to something like F5, say) in the latest set is a nice improvement over the copious listing of keyboard keys before.
