since 2000 (when money got properly silly) the trophy count for the big 5 tophies (prem, FA, League cup, Champions league, uefa cup) is as follows:
Man u 12
Chelsea 11
Liverpool 7
Arsenal 5
City 3
Spurs/ pompey/blackburn/birmingham/swansea/wigan and middlesboro 1
City are fairly recent into the spending foray and Arsenal have always been spend thrift which shows. The others, with the exception of spurs who really have been let down larrys, don't spend.

That seems so blinkered. It is easy to follow. If we spend £40m on a player chances are he will want £100k a week at least. Lets say we buy 3 players they need another £1m a month wages. The club will not lose money for short term glory for the reason why look at Leeds and the chavs had money bags not saved them. I swear to god people on here seem to think the club just decided to lose every competition and have millions sat there doing nothing and its not fucking true.
It gets boring reading everyone saying Arsenal do it because we are incompetent.
On to less boring things Sherwood is getting some serious stick from the Spuds Mafia after this loss. Fingers crossed the players turn on him and we turn them over Sunday. That will be bye bye job I bet

You DO have millions sat there just doing nothing.
I'm not saying you decided to lose - but you'd have had a very good chance of winning the league this year if the club's ethos was to leverage all the resources at its disposal, rather than holding 150 million of them in reserve for "what" exactly?
Not incompetent - simply bizzare. Why not spend the resources you have sat in the bank? They're not doing you any good in the bank - they need to be either writing down debts (which you've already done - or you wouldn't have savings) - or being spent on making the team stronger.
Your board has chosen to not make the team stronger and sit on the cash instead.
To my mind that shows either A) a lack of ambition; B) very high (possibly delusional) self-belief, or; C) something more sinister - like the board are in it for some nice big dividends rather than winning trophies for the fans.

We will because the debts are paid and we have more now. The cash reserve was our cover for not getting the the Champions League.
Its like a Armature golfer taking his mortgage money to buy a new set of clubs so he can try to win an open. If it works out that is great. If he loses because the other golfers go and buy even better clubs and he ends up homeless he looks like a idiot. If Arsenal spent the £100m and were top at Christmas both City and Chelsea can go and spend another £100m to catch us. I think it is a cautious and sensible approach but it can be frustrating.

Well technically it was a Yellow. We certainly need a proper striker but our work in the last third has generally not been good enough.

Not like the refereeing has even been in one or the other teams' favour, it's just been utter shit.
Also Benteke is evidence if the difference a proper striker makes to a team. Villa are shockingly bad but Benteke makes them dangerous.
