Yes it is a widely accepted belief (delusion?) amongst Arsenal fans that we needed to get rid of the dross to bring it new better squad players. If we do not buy anyone in we are in for a horrible season.

It is like dejavu instead of Utd giving us a hiding it is shaping up for Spuds to give us a beating on the Sunday before going out and making a lot of last minute purchases on Monday

There is a lot of talk that this is an internal power play to get rid of Wenger. This is the last season of his contract. The club want to make it seem that Wenger has the money but he is not spending it. Dicking Madrid around with Higuan is a good example of the club not getting the player Wenger wanted.

Maybe they think let him have his last year and run his contract down. If we win fuck all it will be easy for them to move him to another position and bring a new Manager in with a decent war chest to spend.

It's incredible that they would goto the lengths of sabotaging their own team in order to do it though. Why not just grow a pair and tell Wenger (their employee) what to do or fuck off?

Fan backlash I suppose, "In Wenger we Trust" banners are still fairly common. But this is called silly season for a reason. These rumors are 90% bollocks. But something has to be wrong we barely made 4th and we have thinned the squad. If we want to stand still we need to spend. If we want to push on and challenge again we need to spend big. I would be very surprised if Wenger is really happy with the squad.

Another one that went around is that Arsenal want to buy the club back and get rid of the Yank and the Usmanov that would take forever even with the current profits.

They already have. You can only spend what you make, he will not be running the club like a sugar daffy club. If Rodgers wants money he needs to sell players to make it. Hence a lot of your expensive (wages) players being shipped off.
