They dont have a hope of qualifying with their squad. Liverpool will finish above Arsenal this season.

I'm talking about the game against Fenerbahce on Wednesday, they need to qualify for this year's CL before they think about next season.

Wenger on injuries. Wednesday night could prove to be very interesting.

Oxlade-Chamberlain, Gibbs, Sagna. Gibbs has a deep cut. Sagna and Rosicky have problems. Wilshere - I don't know how he will respond after the full 90 minutes. Ramsey has a problem after a kick at his ankle. On that front, we have done quite well.

Sagna's was horrific, it could've been VERY serious. Spoilered because it makes me cringe. :(

Tackles are one thing but deliberately fouling a player after the ball has gone just to disrupt play is not ok but it is a common tactic and something that should be yellow carded every time. But you got away with it.

There was nothing dirty in Villa's challenges, Arsenal live in a strange bubble/alternate reality in the Wenger era where nobody is allowed to tackle them or close them down. There were some late challenges but nothing likely to break an Arsenal player, we're just not a dirty team and never have been. Unlike Arsenal.

Anyway, thought this would raise a smile or three:

Can't do funny and agree :(

Villa aren't a dirty team, I quite like them some times - true underdog, they do not give up. Some of their fans are utter scum though. After hearing them sing "where's your baby gone" to Karen Brady I tend to hope someone leaves some pipe bombs lying around the place.

The more I think about it the more I think that Wenger does not have any money until we qualify for the CL. That Swill Ramble article showed that the footballing side of the business made a loss for the last two years but was covered by other revenue sources. So maybe even with the £100+m in the bank we can't spend it as it would not be sustainable? It is the only reason I think they would not invest in the club.

And all this talk of shambles is a bit too far. The squad is not worse than last year and the same team beat Man City a week ago. We were not great by a long shot but the Ref had a definite impact on the game. And it now sounds like the second penalty was awarded after the Villa pressure on the ref and not by the linesman as first reported. The squad needs improvement that is for sure and without some investment we are shockingly ill prepared for injuries which it looks like we have picked up 5 this week. Which nearly all went unpunished, and yes I know it will all even itself out but I still want to fucking moan.

I never said you were dirty or trying to hurt players. But there is a difference between making a fair attempt at getting the ball and just going in after the ball has been played to give away a free kick to stop the flow of the game. And that you did that a lot today.

If you don't invest in the squad your revenue could plummet in the long run though.

The thing is, any money made by qualifying for the CL will be offset by the increase in price tag in the last few days of the transfer window. And it's not like they need a couple of players, they probably need 4-5.

I do not disagree with any of that. And if we can't afford the top range players we still need to buy some average squad players. Wenger always used to be able to buy some top notch players on the cheap but he has lost that recently.

And the fact that when Kos went off we had 0 defenders we could replace him with was depressing :(

Yeah that is a real problem.

I wonder if they were hoping to survive it this season and then reply on the new TV Deal, Shirt Money and Emirates money that kick in next season to sort it out properly. But with Spuds kicking it up a gear and Liverpool improving it could backfire. But with over £50m more next season in sponsorship I think they are waiting for that :(

If you manage to stay in the CL it will only exacerbate your injury and squad shortage problems. You might be better off out of it?

Both were pens and can't see any crucial choice apart from the possible second yellow on a villa player were wrong.

I think Arse were just a bit pants today

Why do you keep ignoring the fact that I said I know it evens itself out and I have never said Arsenal do not do it. None of that is relevant to the fact that the ref won you that game today.

The referee was terrible for both sides today, but you lost because you played badly and that was a Villa side with some self belief, cohesion and purpose.

Edit: This guy seems a bit more objective, and not quite so angry at an opposition team tackling or a referee making a decision:

Ross Barkley looks promising, hope we don't rush him which probably won't happen, but slight concern over the defending. Could be post-match jitters coming from first game of the season but i hope it's not all undone. Hopefully things will improve quickly over next few matches.

Nice win for Valencia. They won't win the league, but hopefully they'll be able to get a CL spot this season :)

Some interesting stats from a BBC article, especially considering the noise Arsenal fans make about other teams in regards to fouls etc :p

Arsenal now have 64 red cards under Arsene Wenger - the joint-most in the Premier League in that period (level with Blackburn Rovers)
Only Patrick Vieria (eight) and Martin Keown (six) have been sent off more times than Laurent Koscielny

It's winding up of the opposition, happens at all matches, not condoning it of course. The same occured with Walsall fans chanting about a Wolves fan who got stabbed (and killed) a few weeks prior, it's sick but it happens often.

Looking at the MOTD footage the second was a pen as well.
I did not see MOTD :D

During the game they were saying Kos got a toe on it but it seems to be accepted he got nowhere near it now. I have just watched the Arsenal highlights and the first penalty was covered from 6 angles with about 20 replays while they said having played advantage the ref was not allowed to bring it back after Villa miss. But the second penalty and the Kos sending off foul were only shown from very wide angels haha.

He got near it, it wasn't a stonewaller by any means but a penalty was fair enough. Second yellow was harsh imo, especially considering Vlaar did the same thing and got away with it. The yellow for the keeper instead of red was fair enough as well, gabby was going away from goal and there were about 3 arsenal defenders covering.

Motd showed close ups of the second. Kos took the player first with his back leg and then the ball.

Really confident performance only good part I can see from an Arsenal point of view is that Spurs look like they can be had on the counter.
