Come on Arsenal, should've put a super strong side out and smashed them.

I'd actually like to see them do well as well, I get the feeling he's gonna try push in the PL and fall short.

The officials have been poor IMO. Nothing game changing but they have got loads wrong.

Is it just me or did the commentators not seem very excited by that goal?

They time wasted the whole second half and the ref added nothing it is a shame but I am still proud to be an Arsenal fan tonight the team put in the effort and it showed. For a game we had no chance of winning we dominated.

And Jenkinson is turning into a great buy. Like Jack he is a massive Arsenal fan so he gives his all.

So, is no English clubs in the last eight of the CL a "wake-up call" for English football? Personally I don't think so. A wake-up call for Citeh (need a manager who can cut it in Europe, where Mancini has always underperformed), a wake-up call for Chelsea (stop fucking around with the managers Abramovich) but not really for English football as a whole. United and Arsenal probably got two of the three hardest draws of the last 16, don't think there's any need to panic just yet.

I do think the standard of UEFA refereeing has reached new levels of shiteness this year though.

Nope, nothing to worry about. Terrible refereeing decisions in one game and a close call in another (in the last couple of weeks)

Chelsea have imploded into farce with the manager merry go round, they won't win much until they stop fucking about. City need to have a look at their entire system, constantly throwing money at it won't build sustainable success.

I also don't think Wenger has much right to comment, he has worked hard for mediocrity and not won anything in donkeys years.

Why are the English so deluded? Nothing to worry about? For once Wenger is on to something.. Only half of the EPL teams qualified from the group stage and they were knocked out in the next stage. The reigning champions didn't even advance, and the oil-money infused City team only managed 3 points over six matches. I didn't watch last night's Arsenal match, so can't say if they deserved to go through, but losing 1-3 at home is such an impossible mission to over come, against a team like Bayern Munich, that they dug most of their grave themselves. Imo United were unlucky against Madrid, but that was a ref's decision which ruined a fantastic match.

It doesn't change the fact that the English teams this year have been horrible in Europe. Liverpool threw it all on the ground at home, making a silly mistake giving Zenit a 3-0 lead on aggregate, despite making a good comeback. Tottenham have lived up to what has been expected of them, and then some. 3-0 against Inter at home is a massive result and they should be able to walk it home in Milan tonight. Chelsea on the other hand are forced to win atleast 1-0 to get it into extra time. I don't think this will be a problem for the London side, but they have put themselves in a bad position. Newcastle got away with a goalless draw away and should advance as well, but one away goal can ruin the Magpies' dream of European glory.

In my opinion the English teams DO have something to worry about over the next couple of seasons. Chelsea and City have proven that money doesn't mean all. I believe that Abramovich told the players after the CL triumph that "this is only the beginning" and then what happens? The mugs go and get eliminated in the group stage that following season. The manager that won the trophy got sacked and he brings in one fat spaniard that hates the club and the club hates him right back. If the English teams don't do something to improve in Europe over the next couple of years, they will be overtaken by German, Spanish and Italian football

Yeah, 1 season out of the last 10 (or something) that there hasn't been and English club in the last 4! Desperately worrying times!

Yes Chelsea won it last year, but both United and City went out in the group stage and Arsenal were demolished at San Siro in the next stage.

The incosistency doesn't worry you?

This is the first time in 17 years that there's been no English team in the Q/F.

Forgive me while I don't panic at all.

I think things will bounce back in terms of premiership quality in the next few years - the new TV deal cash should make an impact.
