Boohoo United, so for once you get to feel how the rest of the teams do when they come up against a 'big club'. Suck it up and have a bit of dignity. It's nice to see United still being painted as messiahs in the media, despite their disgraceful actions during and after the match. Sometime, I realize how badly football is dying in this country.

The FA overturned the two similar incidents in the Everton - West Ham match where both players received straight reds for exactly the same thing.

Granted, the FA are not UEFA but there's enough precedent to question the decision.

This is Europe, totally different refereeing system. It was instinct, but Nani knew he'd done wrong and was in for it, 2 minutes of playacting lay claim to that.

Poor show from United. There was bad decisions either side, Madrid had a legitimate goal ruled out and Rafael should have been shown a red. Man up and move on. Media darlings need to grow a set.

Yes I did state the difference already. But the main thing you have to remember is they both use the same guidelines and rulebook to referee from. There's no difference in the material they're given to make the judgements.

True, however by the letter of the law the decision was correct. Context should have been taken of course but it was still a red. United didn't change and Madrid did (it was a fucking simple change at that!), and in the end they deserved to lose on the night. The witchhunt conspiracy that the English media is pursuing just portrays us in such a pathetic light yet again. For once, I was hoping our so called 'big teams' would actually have some grace in defeat, rather then complaining that someone had the gall to beat them.

I don't have too much of an issue with the red card. I personally think it's a yellow and never a red but I know why it's been given.

It's not like the decision to send van Persie off in the Nou Camp a couple of seasons ago. I've literally never seen anyone else booked for that, ever. I believe at the time people looked into it closely and RvP hit the ball less than one second after the ref blew. Now THAT was a genuine outrage.

That was one game where I wouldn't be at all surprised if it turns out to be one of the fixed champions league games that are being talked about.

Everyone knows premiership refs show a lot of leeway and dont enforce to the letter of the law.

Arguably to be consistent Refs in this country should take the same line as Europe but a lot of whats referred to as the 'physical' part of the game would disappear.

That doesn't make sense in response to what I said, I gave an example where the referees in England made the SAME decision, but the authority body (in this case the FA) overturned them.

Eboue got the same. The difference is he saw the player come and left his boot in which was dangerous deliberate and malicious.

I was saying that precedant of the FA wont mean much to UEFA basically.

Whenever a player raises a foot to chest height he could potentially be sent off - same with overhead kicks.

It is crap intent should matter.
No it shouldn't.

If intent had to matter than you could have dangerous play all over the pitch as long as you "didn't mean" to hurt the other player.

Intending to hurt another player isn't "dangerous play" - it's assault.

I think thats why Nani got only red card and no further sanction. If you decide to go for a tackle like that you are risking a card, obviously red if you happen to kick the other players ribs even unintentional. We have seen many red cards when players tackle from behind, not because of the intention, but because of the danger the tackle supposes for the rival. From my pov, this was the same case, and if Nani would have deliberatly wanted to harm Arbeloa, he not only would have seen the red, but also some UEFA matches of further sanction.

I rly dont think we should be surprised by the red card. However, I slso think I wouldnt have been too surprised if it would have been just a yellow card (here I have the DeJong kick on Alonso in mind). I dont know if im explaining myself correctly :)

My 2 cents

Apparently the Juventus club shop didn't sell a single shirt with Bendtner's name printed on the back. :D

Don't laugh that means we will just be back paying his wages next season, unless he is out of contract.

He will most likely be back before. Juventus have the rights to lay him off if they'd like. He was just fined 50mil euros by Juventus for his little stunt in Copenhagen

Rio will face no action for his clapping. Shame. Needs an example made of that type of behaviour.

Coloccini out for about 8 weeks after breaking two bones in his back needlessly doing an overhead kick in defence. Ooops.
