It's not like they'd be moving to a better team these days is it really.

League position of N/A (Championship), 12th, 5th in the last 3 seasons vs 3rd, 4th and 3rd (not to mention Champions League football). No difference.

Villa in with a 7 million bid for Dempsey and Liverpool attempting to loan Sturridge apparently

thankfully he's not in the country so im hoping it's bollocks, only players we've left behind are Malouda and Benayoun.

From a Newcastle point of view maybe not but we have had champions league football since the Premiership began, you have had one good season. When you have finished above us for at least 15 years you can talk about being better or even equal.

Didn't Chel$ki say he was available for £25m yesterday as you need to clear out room for some German striker?

Wouldn't be surprised if it did, it seems pretty clear that Di Matteo doesn't really like him. Shame, Sturridge showed so much promise last year. :/

In other news, this is why I love deadline day:

Charlie Fee on Twitter: "My mate working at Madrid airport just saw Kaka getting on a flight to Newcastle....Cabaye replacement?"

might start sending in some fake texts about which player i saw at an airport heading to wherever

Andre Schurrle is inferior to sturridge, not english and would cost 20m, he can fuck off.

Can't really understand why spurs sold him, one of there best players IMO. Now they've got rid if him and modric.

....there gonna struggle.

Don't agree that he's inferior tbh, given how selfish Sturridge is I think in the role both players would be expected to play for the majority of their playtime - as a wide player in the three behind Torres - that Schurrle is a much more natural fit. However, for £20m I do agree we'd be just fine with Sturridge. Still, either way, do we even need more players in that position anyway? It's getting a bit silly now.

I'd say Sturridge's role this season will be striker over wide player considering our signings, who would you rather have in the event of Torres being injured? And Schurrle plays the same as sturridge out wide imo, looks to bend one in over a cross.

Probably true tbh. Just often feel very frustrated watching Sturridge recently because it doesn't seem like he plays for the team at all - only for himself. At the end of the day it's up to the coaching staff to sort that out though, he certainly has the talent.

All the top 4-5 teams could do worse than brining in dempsey. Certainly as a squad player, and certainly at £7m.

Bryan Oviedo confirmed for Everton.. Rats! He's a really good offensive left back

Also please give PSV and Levante in Europa League now!

So, Carroll out on loan, Charlie Adam sold, Jay Spearing out on loan, Henderson won't go to Fulham (shame) and Joe Cole refused a move to Moscow (big shame).

We're looking threadbare when you consider all of the other leavers at LFC. Going to have a very small squad.

Dempsey would not go to Villa, why would he? He is a decent player and moving to a club like Villa would be a major step backwards in his career.

Hope Baines isn't going anywhere, 7m seems quite a bit for Everton to be spending on a sub.

Actually just checked, looks like it's 5 million now.

But it's strange. Usually every year i'm thinking "man, i wish we could strengthen xxxxx (Strikers usually)" but now i'm thinking "we have almost everything we really need!"

Liverpool to finish bottom of their group? That's strong.
