I think treble winning Barcelona may beg to differ, especially after crushing you in the final and scoring more goals.

Mourinho's Porto and Inter weren't bad either.

LOL!

Treble winning in a weak as piss league. Try again! ;)

Jose's Porto were good, his Inter a little stronger but better than our treble side? Not a fucking chance. :p

And you know what mate? Neither of those Jose sides were a patch on the Chelsea side with Robben and Duff, that team was as good as there has been in the Premier League era.

you're treble winning side had the most epic midfield, same as barca now

Andy Cole was the shittest overrated striker in history, only scored tap ins because he had scholes beckham and giggs picking him out.

Much like Van Nistelrooy? He did loads of tap ins as well, but a good striker knows where to be in order to make those tap ins

Our side in the final had no Scholes or Keane. ;) Nicky Butt and Becks were a completely untried central midfield partnership which forced us to play Jesper Blomqvist on the left and Giggs on the right. We still got the job done though, god bless Ole and Teddy, two not even top 20 strikers in Europe if you believe Gohan! :D

for a start I said the only reason cole scores is because of the service, in the final cole didn't score. point proven thanks :) I also said they wouldn't be in the top 10 at the time, which they wouldn't. Yorke maybe, none of the others. If cole was so good why did he never play for England? he was like 7-8th choice just in England let alone europe.... pecking order at that time was Shearer, Owen, Sheringham, Fowler, Ferdinand (les), Heskey, then maybe cole, if not james beattie of darius vassel or kevein phillips or some other barely used international

Except Nistelrooy didn't need a billion chances to score 1 goal, he was also consitant season after season and he was good in other leagues for every team he played for, Cole was a shit Arsenal and Newcastle reject who only got 'good' when he had an unheard of youth team come in around him.

Coles record in the Premier League for Newcastle.

58 games, 43 goals.

Useless.

And yet he has a better scoring record than all of them bar Shearer plus he has an excellent CL scoring record. Your arguement has no legs mate. ;)

Also, i never bought into this 'Cole needs 5 chances to score' stuff. I don't remember it that way and remember him being class on his day. A bit of a flat track bully perhaps, if you will, i remember him putting him 5 past Ipswich and looking like he could have had as many as he wanted. The best teams need a player like that in my opinion.

All the proof people need is in the games against Juventus, Cole was brilliant and combined with Yorke he was unstopable.

that's just not even true......

despite the fact fact that cole at united was his prime, and he had better players around him, ignore those (even tho they favour cole)

and you get:

(stats for the clubs they were at in the 99-00 season, obviously doesn't paint a comple picture because Owens stats are from the age of 16, and shearers are over 11 years, which again favours cole who was in his prime and only a 5 year peiod, but you get the gist)

Shearer 303 games 148 goals (0.49 gpg)
Owen 216 games 118 goals (0.55 gpg)
Sheringham 104 games 31 goals (0.30 gpg)
Fowler 236 games 120 goals (0.51 gpg)
Ferdinand 118 games 33 goals (0.28 gpg)
Heskey 154 games 40 goals (0.26 gpg)
Cole 195 games 93 goals (0.48 GPG)

So Owen, Fowler and Shearer all have a higher GPG ratio at the clubs tey were at in the 99-00 season, liverpool and newcastle respectively

for England Coles stats are 15 games 1 goal, so not even worth pulling out Owen, Shearers or Fowlers there as they will still beat it.

Now I reaslise you're going to come back with full career stats so I'll do it for you,
Cole 229/509 (0.45)
Owen 162/345 (0.47)
Fowler 186/459 (0.41)
Shearer 283/559 (0.51)

Still behind Owen regardless, and fowler has abysmal end of career stats, (24/85 for 5 different teams after leaving Liverpool the SECOND time aswell as only 20/80 at city)

Enough stats to prove a point? even with inarguably a much better midfield and supply service that either fowler or owen enjoyed at liverpool or shearer at newcastle he still wasn't as prolific, and that's not even touching european/world strikers.

Don't argue with me, I'm not kietanz or toht and I will always back up my argument AND YOU WILL LOSE

I bid you good day xxxxxxx

...... watching those highlights, Yorke was brillaint, Scored 1, hit the post, and it was his work that allowed cole to tap in an easy goal. Coles cross was brilliant, but other than that in those highlights he really didn't do alot.

Nice how you put Cole at the bottom of that table even though his GPG would make him 4th but anyway, in his 3 prime years alongside Yorke he scored 71 goals in 140 games, an easy ratio to work out and right up there with the best in Europe at that point. :p

Now remember the original point? Fergie's comment? He was talking about those players at that point, not before, not after, in 1999! ;)

...add to the fact that Owen spends more time limping around the physios office than actually kicking a ball about...

I know who I would rather have at my club in their prime and it certainly isn't Owen.

I put them in order of England call up priority then compared him to the 3 that beat him.

but now you've made me do it, you've only yourslef to blame ;)

Europeans strikers 1999-2000 gpg ratio (10 goals or more only)

Cole 22/45 0.49
Yorke 23/47 0.49
Sheringham 6/36 0.17
Solskjaer 15/46 0.33
Owen 12/30 0.40
Henry 11/26 0.42
Bergkamp 10/39 0.25
hasslebaink 35/47 0.74
Di Canio 18/45 0.40
Phillips 30/38 0.79
Shearer 30/50 0.60
Raul 29/57 0.51
Morientes 18/44 0.41
Kluivert 23/42 0.55
Inzhagi 27/43 0.63
Rivaldo 23/50 0.46
Vieri 18/24 0.75
Batistuta 29/44 0.66
Rebrov 30/40 0.75
Shevchenko 29/43 0.67

there are probably loads more that I can't remeber and players like Fat Ronaldo were injured etc but even with that list of 20 your players are ranked 11th 12th 18th and 20th

2 mediocre and 2 of the worst = the 4 best???

OK THEN :D :D :D
Rebrov, Hasslebaink, Vieri, Batistuta, Shevchenko and Inzhagi all got over 0.60 and in the prem Shearer and Kevin Phillips both got 0.60 and above.

Face it, not one of them ranked high among the european elite. Let alone all 4 of them.

Love the way you add strikers playing in easy mode leagues which boost their numbers massively. ;) In 1999 he outdid Owen, Henry, Bergkamp, Di Canio all playing in England. ;)

Shearer is a goal monster, Phillips was a one-two season wonder. :p

Oh and let me add because it keeps eludiing you. Premier League title, FA Cup winners and Champions League winners. Not some 'cup treble', the real mc'coy, only ever done once by one English side. ;)

5 were playing in spain 4 in italy 10 in England, only Rebrov was in Ukraine but scored 7 goals in the CL so it seems suitable. Carew also had a rediculas season scoring 36/38 but as he was at rosenborg I decided against including him.

From those stats you can clearly see both Owen had injury plauged seasons as he only played 24 games and Bergkamp was never an out and out goal scorer but he's a player I mentioned and scored more than 10 so I included him. I left players that didn't perform as well as expected to show I'm not being biased, just presenting the facts as they are, players you yourself would rank as being up there didn't perform that year and Yorke and Cole still weren't top dogs.

Henry I've just realised I put the wrong stats for, that was his goals and assists in 47 games so 26/47 = 0.55 which pushed Yorke and Cole down to 12th and 13th, really not getting any better for you :< also Michael Bridges got 17 in the PL that season, couldn't find out in how many games or what other games/goals he got that season so I ommited him as well but you can assume he'd be on around 0.50

also, I never took anything away from united's acheivement. I merely stated that SAF's comment about having the four best strikers in Europe was bollocks. As I have proved pretty conclusively; if he had said best stirke force it would be a fair comment, subjective maybe as Barca and Madrid had great depth as well but it wouldn't raise eyebrows. Saying he had THE FOUR BEST, however, was a retarded statement. Can we call this argument my win now? I think when you start trying to argue a seperate point entirely as above you know you've lose :p :p :p ;)

And yet Cole/Yorke are still regarded as the best premiership pairing in 20 years, plus they won everything in the game at United. That is what really sticks in your gullet isn't it? :D ;) :D

Personally Owen promised more than he actually delivered as he got older, in that way Rooney is almost closely following the same form guide.

Not even slightly. I could care less, maybe, just about. Again at no point have I slated United or even their formidable partnership. Just think Cole was massively overrated and Yorke was the real gem in that duo. Also neither of them were in the top 5 in europe let alone 2 of the top 4 alongside Sheringham and Solskjaer.
