He would fit in that Striker role that's been absent since Suarez's ban. You know, the man supposedly responsible for scoring goals and bringing others into play.

£20m for Henderson was one of the worst pieces of business I've ever seen, astonishingly bad value.

Tbh 30m for Carroll is just as bad .. okay he had a fair few good games at Newcastle before they bought him, but i've never seen anything else to suggest he's half decent. Its like Djemba BA, i wouldnt be suprised if one of the top 5 clubs splash out on 20mil for him then he proves to same shite as Caroll...

big fish and all that ... ?

You haven't spend a billion but you have spent a lot on very average players.

Disagree with you Waz. The last owners were asset strippers (which is why they were forced out).

Rafa was right (though you won't believe him) - he spent very little net. He said his biggest regret was the buying players to sell-on policy when he should have just bought quality and then told the world he'd run out of cash. - So, yes, a lot was spent on chod, but chod was sold on at a profit. We just weren't given the proceeds to plough back into a quality squad.

The new owners have sold more players than they've bought (wise move - get ride of many unnecessary players) and dropped a bollock with Carroll (they should have taken 30 million for Torres and wanged Kuyt up front until they could find a proper foil for Suarez). Bout £52 million net.

52 million quid after the loss of Alonso, Mascherano, Garcia and Torres in recent years? I think that's farrrrr from enough.

Even Christian Purslow *spit* said that the board was "scraping the bottom of the barrel" in terms of the new owners.

It's just more evidence that money wins leagues - if Liverpool can't realistically compete financially then the rest of the league should just pack up and go home :(

What we do as a club is really quite remarkable.

Yep. And many of your supporters barely realise that.

The point isn't really about net - it's about paying sums of £55m for Carroll and Henderson combined.

No matter what rationale you put on it that's retarded, stupid, short-sighted and irresponsible.

And yes, a lot of our fan base fucks me off as they seem to have no understanding of how anything works in football at all. :)

According to the website I posted on the previous page. You are the second highest gross spender (£309 million) and the 3rd highest net spender, amount after player sales (84 million) Spending on average 6 million a season more than UTD for the last 5 years.

What Arsenal have done is phenomenal from a business point of view but they can't go on without winning anything, otherwise its all a little pointless from a football perspective.

Better than spending bucketloads like Liverpool and still not winning anything. :D

Not really, Arsenal could have been a title winning side with a relatively modest increase in spending because they are obviously one of the most consistently talented sides, but lack...steel, for want of a better word, and Wenger's principles have sometimes got in the way of common sense. Liverpool on the other hand have only been close to the title once in the last decade and would need a shit load more work to make them a real challenger.

There's a load of different ones of them, so I'll take what Rafa told me on the beach in Caldy in October as my "facts" ;)

Edit: Yeah, I don't want to have to make another post. He lives around the corner from my sister and regularly walks his dog on t'beach. As do I with my sister's dog every time I visit. Couldn't resist asking - he was a top bloke.

Edit edit: Tho I think I'd be richer now if, as my sister suggested, we kidnapped his kids and wife whilst they were visiting a pub nearby ;)

If it were only as simple as that. Spending an extra £20m a season wouldn't guarentee any success, so I'd rather we continue to operate within our means and have a secure future than be so petty as to chase titles in a 5-7 year span or so. Everyone also seems to forget that no club should EXPECT success, particularly Arsenal - they've only ever won things in patches - historically we do well, then have big gaps before doing well again. It's only because of the mid 90s-mid00s that people think Arsenal should be up there all the time... people are forgetting the times we finished mid-table under Graham in the 90s etc.

Can't you Chelsea lot have a word with Mr A and get him re-employed? Then at least we wouldn't have to listen to him. :(

Does anyone else think Rooney has lost it? All of his touches seem too heavy, he's not very fast and he is giving the ball away far too often. He does spray some great passes about but you don't really need that from a striker.

edit- Now I have said that he will obviously bang in a hatrick but still.

Seemed to me more like he got his legs tangled in rio's but that could just be my rose tinted specs as well.

It's not like Rio's a 5th choice player, he's supposed to be #1. At least Squillaci has an excuse :p
