Sorry but putting a fake smile on it for the sake of a FA rule is wrong and I would rather they were honest. Shaking someones hand does not mean you instantly respect them, you will be the same during the game handshake or not.

If you can't respect your opponent during a game and bring yourself to act in a good sporting fashion towards them, regardless of your personal feelings, then imo you have no place in the game.

I could not agree less you want players with passion or the game will be boring. You do not need to like players to play against them in a game of football. Saying you have to remove your emotions and be a robot is not a good thing.

Where did I say anything about needing players to like each other or remove their emotions? Neither of those are required for players to have respect for each other and act in a good sporting fashion during the game. You can have all the passion and emotion you like but you still need to respect the people you're playing with/against.

You are saying ignore your feeling towards someone and shake their hand, sorry that that is suppressing your emotions. If you force players to shake hands when they don't want to you remove any respect that is associated with the act. If the player does it when he does not want to it's a fasle gesture. The Respect campaign is meant to be for the players and refs not to make people at home feel fluffy.

You don't have to like a person or supress any feelings of dislike or any other emotions in order to display respect towards someone as a player and participant in a game. Your personal feelings towards someone are separate to sportsmanship or respect. And as I said earlier if you can't respect the people you're playing with/against then you have no place in the game.

That is rubbish, if i do not like you and I do not respect you and if i do shake your hand it means nothing. This is a non issue, shaking someone's hand at the start of the game means nothing you do not treat them with more respect because you got a hand shake. I am walking away from this now as we both just keep saying the same thing and going nowhere and it is getting dull.
