Really? Not being partisan here but Gerrards been captain of Liverpool for donkeys years and in that time won UEFA cups, Champions League, Super, League & FA Cups. Basically everything that's winnable but the league.

If that's not a stand-out candidate I don't know what is.

Lampard has always been the superior player, but you can put most of his troubles in the England setup down to being shackled by that useless crock of violent, criminal shite known as Gerrard.

I agree. They've both been shocking for England compared to their clubs. Gerrard never seems to get played in his position for England tho, or has to share duties wtih Lampard - which has never, ever, worked.

Ditch Lamps. Give Gerrard captaincy and play the rest of the players in their natural positions and we'll have half a chance (of failing in the semi's)

4 months until Euro 2012, we need someone who has been a captain for England before really.... give it to someone like Hart after Euro2012 but imo Gerrard or Parker for now.

I dont think keepers make great captains, thy can't run out and put a rocket up someone's arse. CB is best position for a captain. They can watch the whole game and can get about to put people in their place.

Goalies can make themselves heard if they need to. I agree an outfield player is probably a better choice if there is a good candidate but the keeper needs to be someone that has authority anyway for organising defence in set-pieces etc.

He seems to be the most likely one who actually demands respect from his team mates, and as noted, he was a great leader for the u-21s.
