Surely Liverpool wants some instant succes for the next season, or else they wouldn't forge out that much for a single player. I'm sure Caroll will become a great player, but I don't think he'll have much impact in the next season compared to most players that can be bought for that much.

Oh well, the time is running out :) it will be him or nothing for them.

Clearly he has talent and at the age of what 22? He will only get better, unless he turns into another Wayne, i'm a granny shagging moany chav, Rooney result :)

Rooney is a proven international with 26 goals scored for England, has dozens of goals in Europe and well over one hundred league goals too, oh and won numerous trophies. Andy Carroll has done what exactly? Why is he worth anything like that kind of money based on actual performances? 9 goals in 19 league games is good but it isn't great. For £35 million he needs to have a fuckload more than just potential.

Torres absolutely fucked us by leaving it so late to decide he wanted to leave. 3 days was absolutely no time to find a replacement, which is why this Carroll thing has been rushed through. Dont really know what to think. Sort of want him to fail the medical, but then again we really really do need another striker. It would have been impossible to bring in a foreign target like Cavani, especially if they havn't been scouted properly. Maybe they should have had the foresight to look for a replacement for Torres.

not sure anyones a winner in this so far really.

Liverpool have what, swapped Torres for Carroll (young, fairly untested and struggling with injury atm) and Suarez (not played at highest level league wise yet, going to be a lot of pressure on him to perform from the off)

chelsea have splashed 50 mill on a currently non-performing "superstar"

and newcastle have lost what is possibly there best striker (which isnt saying a lot) so Ashley can pocket the cash probably. Back to Ameobi up front, with either Ranger or Best......

strange stuff.

You paid £26 million for an 18 year old Rooney. That's about what we're paying for Carroll in todays money.

And he doesn't fuck grannies and whores!

Oh dear, that just about sums up your knowledge of football and this whole scenario in general. :p

Let us put it this way, what we paid for Rooney now seems cheap compared to what you just paid for Carroll. ;)

Rooney was a beast when Man Utd signed him, shame he went from an uber can-score-from-anywhere-and-take-one-all-defenders to a boring tap in **** who does the occassional cross field pass

Younger, more proven, Caroll has what 11 top flight goals aged 22? Rooney had won the Champions League by that point. ;)

He will find his mojo again one day, at United or elsewhere.

Well he has done an Owen, only time will tell if he can actually get his head down instead of in and actually pull out of it. The reality is we are also hoping that Torres recent form slump is just a short term issue.

Didn't Rooney cost around 30m at the age of 17-18 ?

Ofcourse, was tongue in cheek ;)

Doubt it'll be while Berba is on form though, one or the other imo. I suspect it'll be Rooney if Valencia returns to normal.

£26 million but only £18 million of it upfront, the rest was structured and the final installment made in 2008 iirc.

And you know that this deal is 35-40m straight how?
All Rooney had when Man Utd signed him for 26m£ was potential too. ;/

Yeah I see it being much the same, United play differently with Valencia in the side and it benefits Rooney's tireless running more. The bloke might be a scumbag of a human being but there is no denying when on top form he is lethal.

deals and wages are never as straight forward as everyone thinks, the media just print the maximum possible sum because if they whack massive quotes in the headline they'll sell papers

Just what is on the radio and websites so far, Newcastle wanted 80% of the money upfront which of course Liverpool can afford after getting so much cash for Torres.

As for all Rooney had, well let us see. On his debut he scored a Champions League hat-trick against a very durable Fenerbache in Turkey. Rooney was a cracking player, of a higher calibre than Carroll is now and ALOT younger too.
