Ancelotti sacked how crap is that he a good manager .. hope they get a roy hodgeson a like next year and they dont get in the champions league at the end of next season

They need some youth injecting in there but to come second in the league and get sacked is silly imo

Realistically I think next season defines Lampard's ability to play at the top given his age. Injury aside this year, he's been in and out of form depending on the formation played. Same goes for Drogba, Anelka and co, I think they have one more good'un in them before they start to be sold or become squad players (should they stay this summer).

I would happily take a season in transition to build around Torres, Sturridge and go, but given the choice of stability or success, clearly Roman wants neither!

Building around Torres is a massive risk, you have to change the way you play to get the best out of him and his injury record is pretty shocking. Chelsea definately need a plan B.

What else do you do though, let the £50m player continue to flop? Quite honestly I haven't a clue what you do, hopefully the new gaffer will.

On another note

I can see both sides of the coin, but surely for the man who gave Chelsea their most successful ever season you give him the benefit of the doubt to see out his contract?

Bleh, Paddypower only giving 9/5 on United retaining next year, hardly seems worth a punt. Arsenal could be good value at 15/2 if they are going to spend for once. Quite suprised Liverpool are in at 9/1 as there is no indication of a massive budget for new transfers so far and as well as Kenny has done they have only been good but not brilliant. Spurs 50/1, now that is a longshot but a few quid on that could payout nice.

Hes chelsea new number 1. FOr 50m you HAVE to play to his strengths. He thrives off the slide rule passes and there is no one better. Look at him for Spain. Hes gash when Xavi and Iniesta play because they play a no risk, keep posession game plan, but then when they bring fabregas on, Torres looks a different player.

Yes he will be the new number 1 but what happens when he is injured? If Chelsea build a side around him they are going to get badly stung every so often when he crocked, unless they have a plan B they are going be stuck with a gameplan that doesn't suit the other strikers they have. As it stands it is a side built from Drogba but if they make the changes it looks like they will then it will be a side built to feed Torres who will never play as many games as Drogba. That is the risk and it doesn't make sense to me, better to build a team around a more conventional pair of striker/forward and make Torres adapt to that, his pace will fall away over time anyway and he will need to find a different way to win.

Im not taking the bait. Wolves stayed up, I supped WKD and kicked our lasses ass at pool. Im too happy to get into that debate.

Wasn't trying to start a debate. I'm just happy for him. Fantastic second goal and set-up for the 8th. What a poor defensive display from Almeria though, wouldn't see that in the Championship.

We saw it against Blackburn late last year. ;)

Torres will never be able to adapt. My point being Spain and when Gerrard is injured. If you spend £50m on a player, who is the best in the world at a particular way of playing, you have to build a team around him, and get reserve strikers who can fill in. Neymar?

That is the point really, you need other players like him to cover and there just aren't many, certainly not at the level Chelsea need. Neymar is a good player but he doesn't play in the same way as Torres, therefore he would not only have to adapt to a different style of football coming to England but also a different way of playing as a striker? It doesn't make sense to me, build a side around Neymar because he is young, highly talented and doesn't have a history of long layoffs. Torres is over 27 now, has a long history of injury and recovery plus what at least one if not two very poor seasons by anyones standards? The risk is massive, yes if it pays off Chelsea will win silverware but if it doesn't they could be scuppered for a couple of seasons and all of that just as the finanical fair play rules come in.

He wasn't good business for them imo, it was an impulse buy from a man desperate to win a European Cup before the rules change. That £50 million should have been spent on a couple of good wingers to give the side a plan B and a talented young striker to compliment what they already have. Had they done it in January it could have been them in the final now.

shame about ancelotti, chelseas season was a bit bizzare though, from demolishing everything at the start, to flopping and falling 15 (i think) points behind and everyone saying their season was over, to bringing it back to the wire and then flopping at the final hurdle :/

cant believe that after the Champs league final next week we have to wait for an age before more football (U21 Euro championship in Denmark is in August right?)

A season without any European footie at LFC!!! i am disappointed, to say the least for two reasons.

First and obviously because it is always good to watch football against the teams in Europe but even more importantly the difficulty in getting top quality players to sign for you without the lure of European Football.

On the other hand, it will allow us a chance to continue to rebuilding the team, the squad and eventually the stadium (new or redeveloped). We are many players short of a squad capable of seriously challenging for honours on three fronts - Premier League, FA & League Cup and Europe.

We will need far longer then the summer reccess to build a squad that can cope with the many games involved in a successful campaign on these 3 fronts.

Regardless of the end result of LFC what a season a real roller coaster ride and some really cracking results and once again SAF showing once again just how much of a colossus he really is and quite frankly, as a Liverpool fan, i cant wait until he bloody retires!! :)
