I hate this. Hubris. I also think it shows a massive amount of disrespect to Blackburn and Blackpool, irrespective of what I think the actual result will be.

It does nothing of the sort, if we can't manage one point from those two games we are going to have massive egg on face, United fans know this and are prepared to take the risk. It reflects nothing on those two teams, long before we got to this stage of the season we would have been confident of taking points from them and nothing has changed apart from people trying lay a guilt trip.

No, it is not. We are not overconfident in our own abilities, we have taken points off both sides already this season, it is confidence based on performances we have already given and the potential of performances we are capable of. Look at recent games, three strong wins against Chelsea and the steamrollering of Schalke who almost everyone on this forum said were going to give us a hard time. If it were Chelsea in our postition I am damn sure they would be confident of taking at least one point against Blackburn and Blackpool as well but because it is United the mud slinging has begun. That is the worst thing about the ABU brigade, blinkered beyond all reason.

Hubris isn't overconfidence, its arrogance. It doesn't matter that the odds are overwhelmingly in favour of us getting one point from six, its still arrogant to think its automatic. In case you haven't noticed, United have lost to "lesser" teams this season, so to assume the Prem is a mere formality is hubristic. If I wasn't a United fan I'd hate us for being a shower of arrogant pricks frankly.

The time for congratulation is when the job is done, and never, ever, before.

From wiki

Hubris often indicates a loss of contact with reality and an overestimation of one's own competence or capabilities, especially when the person exhibiting it is in a position of power.

OED

(hju br s) [a. Gr. (cf. HYBRIS).]
Presumption, orig. towards the gods; pride, excessive self-confidence.

Utd have lost to lesser teams.... AWAY from home.

Can't see Man Utd losing to Blackpool at Old Trafford. We dropped 2 points there all season, cant see that unbeaten run coming to an end against Blackpool.
Now, I agree that Blackburn are going to be a tough opposition at their ground, and it not a foregone conclusion that we will get a result there. BUT. if at the start of the season you told any of the top teams that they would need 1 point against Blackpool in a home game to win the league then they would snap your hand off for that to be the case.

This does not particularly surprise me. England's bid would have won easily if the decision was based purely on merit.

England winning the bid does nothing for Fifa. If you decide to ignore the chance of corruption then Russia and Qutar offer much more of a legacy for Fifa by hosting the competition there. England could host a world cup this summer, in that respect we were the obvious choice. But if Fifa are looking to make a lasting impact on the countries where they go then we are not an obvious choice.

Of course none of this matters if it turns out they all got bribed.

I've said before if that was the plan then they were looking for other bids just to validate the process, when in reality they should of just told England not to bother and thus waste time and money.

As I mentioned, if the decision was on merit then England would be hosting the World Cup. FIFA do not care about the experience of the fans and players - they only make decisions to satisfy their own interests.

It is obvious Kuyt has learned a thing or two by having Rafa as manager

he was immense in the 6-3 victory against valencia, absolutely superb. Really stood out for me, even against Higuain and Benzema who got 3 each iirc.

The man clearly still has the talent, and maybe with an injury free season could be an amazing piece of business for someone.

He would be a good signing for chelsea imo, to play in this 4-4-1-1 formation a lot of teams have been playing recently. Torres up top, with Kaka behind him. Essien & Lamps in the middle, malouda on the left and they'd have to buy a right winger obviously.

Or maybe Kaka on the right and Torres & Sturridge/Anelka up front.

This is all assuming Drogba goes btw. And probably Ancelotti.

I just dont want to pay the inevitable massive fee for a 29yo with a bad injury record, as wazz says we need a right winger more than anything imo

what's the betting if we do get a right winger we sign Ribery and he is more injured than Robben was. :D
