No, unsporting is breaking the rules on purpose or playing an unfair advantage. This was following the rules of the game. You play to the whistle, and there was not one.

If you think any footballer would have done different you are living in a fantasy world.

Also, Newcastle are rampant. Carrol and Ameobi are a scary force together.

It was a yellow not a red , he wasnt the last man back the challenge wasnt blindy form the back or a lunge , also the ref was right beside it , such a bad decision

What the hell was Mensah meant to do then? He's not going to leave Nolan free is he? Not understanding the refereeing here at all. Still it's not affected the result, Sunderland have been shite.

I totally agree newcastle were dominating but for such a large crowd to have a game put beyond all doubt by 1-2 bad decisions so early on is dissapointing to say the least

Eh? The game was not put to bed by bad decisions at all. The game was put to bed by Newcastle scoring lots of goals. The penalties were fair, they yellow cards and calling of fouls was over zealous, and he had no ability to control players or calm them down.

the surely its deliberate handball and a straight red if it wasn't a free kick?

A goalkeeper handling in the area is not handball - the ref did not blow for a freekick for Nani's handball, like I said, you play to the whistle.

Think it was because it denied him a goal scoring opportunity, the defender on the other side of the box wouldnt have got there

But yet you think it's unsporting? Ridiculous, Nani took a gamble, the ref gave it. Footballers push the limits of the game all the time, it's not unsporting. Gomes made a mistake by not waiting for the refs decision.

It was but he was right to the letter of the law.

And when the other team kicks the ball out when a player is down injured?

Surely they are stupid to do that? They should play to the whistle right and take advantage of the fact the other team is a man down?

I guess that's completely different though?

Yes it is. They should play to the whistle, too many players fake injury to hold up play.

that is the prem leagues guidelines infact, unless theres blood or a headwound as far as i am aware, due to the problem of players feigning injury to stop the game, as seen way too often on the international scene, to the frustration of fans and footballers i imagine

i thought 606 on radio 5 with alan green was quite funny earlier.

a fellow toon fan came on, ranted on about just how much a 5-1 win v mackems was important to him and all toon fans.. obviously delighted, delirious all that.. the kind of feeling you get from beating your local rivals and that.

then.. next 2 calls were from essex and london... so called liverpool supporters..

FUCK OFF!!

if they heard how much a geordie cares about a win v sunderland how the fuck can these pricks call themselves liverpool supporters (and they werent in the SLIGHTEST scouse sounding)

these plastic fans will NEVER get to experience what us toon fans did today. Everton derby for them is just another game, it MEANS NOTHING.

so plastic fuckers.. stop phoning up, stop posting, coz you dont give a shit and why should anyone listen to you?

5-1... fuck you mackems!!

Heh , i don't deny Newcastle their win in the slightest i just think afew bad decisions by the ref took the polish off a great victory , then again i support Arsenal and im from galway so that makes me a plastic fan right ? Which makes the last 15 seasons or so i spent stupid money to get to watch all there matches on the edge of my seat and the 1000's of euros i spent on merchanside and to watch em against sunderland last year all plastic and fake too yes ?

I think not , enjoy your victory ... you genuinely deserve it the toons were far too good to go down to the championship , but take off the blinkers and focus on what exactly is being said and in reference to what ;)

Bit different, you don't live in the UK and so you don't owe any team alliegance which means you are free to pick whatever team you like and no one should give you shit. :)

Oh look, turamber's got an alt.

He has got a point, I can't believe that anyone who's not actually from the area where a team are from, or has some links to it at least, will ever be as passionate as a fan that is from that area.

I have to chuckle when I see kids in Birmingham wearing Man United and Chelsea shirts, nothing more than gloryhunters.

I largely agree and have said it many times, it really only applies to English people though right? Can't condemn someone from another country for supporting whichever team they choose right?

Ain't that the truth, noone but fans from the place itself will ever have the passion and fire that they do for their club. However, people who aren't English/Welsh(Cardiff, Swansea etc etc), in my opinion, are free to choose whoever they want to follow in the English Leagues without having any shit given towards them.

Those that get it are for example, kids going round Wolverhampton in their United/Liverpool tops, that to me is not being a football fan, but jumping on a bandwagon.

Yes, there are some huge exceptions as they follow their selected clubs because of family or friends and do actually follow them, e.g. a mate of my dad is a Spurs fan and he follows them all over the country, he's not a glory fan in my eyes as he has bothered to put the effort in to actually go down their and watch his team. What annoys is the people who never even bother going to watch their adopted teams, they deserve all the shit they get.

One that irriates me beyond belief is the huge amount of United fans down in Cheltenham, pubs are filled on Saturdays with them, when there local team playing a decent level can't even fill their ground, it's a disgrace, the ones giving it the large ones to me on Tuesday was ridiculous. Pricks.

but you wont know if they or their parents have always been fans unless you talk to them, im not denying there are glory hunters, just annoys me that people are always quick to bash people (incidentally my entire family are man utd fans and i am alone in being a Hull City fan)

geography is pretty important too, many people will support two teams, a friend of mine for example has been an Arsenal fan all his life and used to go to matches alot, now, he cant afford it as much as he used to but he also support Woking and goes to their games instead (not quite same level in Conference south though!)

going back to the family ties, my dad is from dublin, meaning theres the local teams and two outside teams to support, Celtic and either Man Utd or Liverpool (as these were shown on TV and easy to get to back in the day), i have a norweigan friend who is bizzarely a Millwall fan, because when he was growing up the local TV station always used to show Millwall games, and he still follows them and when he is in the UK tries to get to their games.

fans come in all shapes and sizes, simply saying "if you dont live near the clubs, you arent a real fan" is frankly stupid and a bit naive, im sure for most of you there are clubs nearer to where you live than the premiership club you support, especially in London or Manchester or Birmingham.

Well I guess. Personally I don't understand the attraction of supporting a foreign team.
