BBC News - Fans' tribute to football's 'saviour'

Never let it be said that Aston Villa have done nothing for professional football in England or, indeed, worldwide.

It is sad that it has taken so long for the will to form to have a statue of McGregor, heck even Deadly Doug named a stand after himself years before even the idea of McGregor's statue was conceived.

Little is known about the man and his taste in clothes or his personality, even his grave was lost for decades. But his legacy to football shouldn't be taken lightly.

Looking forward to the unveiling ceremony tomorrow and then, hopefully, a good game against Spurs :)

Villa have alot of class when it comes to things like this, I love them having a charity in place of the main shirt sponsor as well. Respect.

Intersted read.

Wonder what football would be like if his dreams of sharing ticket revenue etc was followed.

RVP has scored 6 of 36 goals im not sure his absence will be that dramatic Cesc in current form would be a much bigger loss. Its a shame RVP is out a big one but this close to January i do not think its a title challange ender.

8 goals and 8 assists in your last 11 premier league games? I think that is the form of a striker you need playing, not sitting out injured. Where are your goals going to come from now? Vela, Eduardo, Bendter, Wallcott? Don't think any of them have it in them yet to be a 20 league goal a season striker.

At the moment we have goals coming from everywhere like i say i hope we will be fine it would take a complete disaster to fall apart between now and January.

Think Utd going to be in trouble for harrassing the referee after this game.. but it is the friendly premier league prat in charge

Portsmouth just had a penalty and scored. Was alot of shirt pulling by Vidic but the commentators say this stuff happens every week. Not sure where I stand on that.

pfft that was ages ago.

THere are a lot worse offenses going on in the box from set pieces then what was seen there. That is why I dont understand it.

If they give that one, then they got to give at least 5 penalties in every game. I said in the past that is what they should do to prevent it, but the fact is the refs decided that they wont give them and so players do it. Till they all decide to punish every one of these offenses then they shouldnt give any of them.

was a lovely lay off from giggs. Had to laugh at the offside claims before the ball even got to rooney by the player trying to chase him. lol

edit:

hatrick for rooney \o/ ... there is another example of avram , utd and penalties

haha another penalty!
GOOOAAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLLL Rooney!

I thought Giggs would have got a free kick when he went to go past their defender. Looked like Dichion (sp?) shoved him out the way just as he was getting to the ball. Ref allowed play to continue, then Dichion pushed Giggs over when Giggs won the ball back in the box

Hull goal: The ball spins off Joleon Lescott in the Man City area - did it hit his hip, or an arm? Referee Lee Probert decides it was the latter and points to the spot. Controversial. Jimmy Bullard steps up to smash the penalty home and celebrates by imitating Phil Brown's half-time team-talk from last year - his team-mates all sit down to listen. Classic - not that Mark Hughes will have enjoyed it this time around.

Bullard is such a legend :D:D

Bullard is great because he is a clown off the pitch and just loves a laugh

Didn't enjoy the game much tonight. Nicking a lead and playing on the counter for the rest of the game will not win games consistently. We still need some work.

I fancy Everton getting the draw here, they have settled and their interplay around the box is improving. Pienar, Bilyatinedov and Afro in particular are looking threatening, especially when they also bring Jo into play.
