Didn't Wolfsburg lose some of their best players over the summer?

I think our group is the hardest purely because we've got the only good pot 3 team to face (athletico) still expect to top it though. Manutd and Liverpools look pretty straight foward and Arsenal might as well send the reserves out for their games.

no you are thinking about stuttgart who sold gomez, their striker to bayern munich.

wolfsburg didn't lose their strikers (grafite & dzeko) and offensive midfielder Misimović who played great last year. they also bought Martins (no idea how good he is, but he's fast in FM :p) and ziani from Olymp Marseille :)

Group E: LIVERPOOL, Lyon, Fiorentina, Debrecen

that's 3 quality teams, right there. It's not an easy group.

shame for villa. i predicted they'll have a crap season and that's looking good so far, players like warnock are hardly gonna power them into the top 6.

Both state sponsored football teams but the Arabs have alot more oil than Spain. ;)

Yes but man city;s owners could just get bored and quit which would leave city up shit creak (/me prays!). If Perez left, it wouldnt matter. They wouldnt be up shit creak.

I don't know for sure. But I was under the impression if a billionaire bought a football team, he could not just simply say "i've had enough, no more money for you I quit" because of the knock on effects it would have.

What normally happens is that a football club with a rich owner will take out loans either directly from the owner or from a bank with a guarantee from the owner. So in that sense the owner can't walk away.

However football clubs have alot of assets (as well as a lot of debts). Players, stadiums, training grounds etc. So if the owner wanted to walk away they could strip the club of assets. This would screw up the club but get some money back for the owner.

Look at Chelsea, they have spent hundreds of millions on players but if they sold them all they would get a significant fraction of that cash back.

sometime's i want briatore to do to QPR, what abrahmovich did for chelsea buying all the best with the millions. But they seem to sorting out the club with more sponsors and better sponsors, improved the stadium with eletrical advertising boards and a huge screen, brought in other invester's and the like. clearing the clubs debt and so on, so even though we havent done much in the headlines the club is in good hands (business wise). footy wise we suck and need different better players and not just loaned ones or we'll be stuck mid-table for eternity :(:(:(

The Eduardo thing has my mate fuming over xenophobia. He may have a bit of a point; when Gerrard or Rooney dive, nobody bats an eyelid but after this incident, everybody was going on about it.

The pointlessness more than anything is what gets me we were winning and in no danger im not saying its right to dive when your losing but at least then there is abit of a reason.

But its right Gerrard has never been called out to the same level as Drogba.

Meh, the Europa Cup is the League Cup of Europe. None of the pub or club owners I approached last night here in Istanbul (having a sneaky holiday!) had a Scooby what the competition was. Shame but not the end of the world.

We also played well and it was only the away goal that screwed us over. We have been getting better every game this season, I am sure we will be up there again.

And why the Warnock hate? Pretty sure he was at Blackburn when they were in the top six, he is also a lot better than Shorey.

Agreed, he has got away with murder at times because he is media darling.

Dunno about that, he joined in 2007, so he's finished 7th & 15th. Before that he was just a Liverpool youth teamer/squad player before that (67 games in ~9 seasons). I'd say he's fairly competent but I doubt he'll set the world alight (though yes, he probably is better than Shorey)

Wenger said:
“On and off the pitch things have happened where no action was taken. This is the first time since I've been in football that the judgement has been made by the referee is not accepted by the football bodies.

“Usually a situation that has been assessed and judged by the referee can't be touched again. Now every single decision made by a referee can be challenged. So for me they've opened a very dangerous door here.”

Thats a good point hes made there why should Fletcher miss the cl final because the ref made a judgement and cant be over turned but this can?

its a different situation because in darren fletchers case he was punished for something the referee decided was wrong (i am not getting into whether it was the right decision thats a whole different kettle of fish), however in this case eduardo misled the referee and so was not punished during the game (crucially in this instance the referee never made any reference to diving of eduardo so the governing bodies can do something because it had effectively nothing to do with the referee, though it does reflect badly on his decision making)

doubt that the FA/UEFA will start charging every player that dives with two match bans, would be an insurrection from the big clubs who tend to get the most stick for diving (drogba, ronaldo, gerrard, anelka, eduardo, adebayor, hear many complaints about Andre Bikey diving? nope because no one cares :p )

maybe not here, but me and my mates hate it when anyone dives, our team players or not. Liverpool fans defend Gerrard a lot but he is a dirty diving ****. Rooney has had his moments, and got a lot of stick and I hope he does not do it anymore. Drogba has been good so far this season, I doubt he can resist the oppurtunity if it comes along though.

I also think we should be careful with defining diving - if a player dives with no contact in the box thats a piss take, however sometimes a player is justified in going down when there has been enough contact to put him off but not make him fall - the refs need the foul highlighted because they are unable to judge it otherwise.
