on top of that the Little girl mimed the song about the motherland, because the girl actually singing it wasnt apparently pretty enough to do it at the main event!

I thought the footsteps walking up to the stadium were faked, but the rest I thought was real.

Thats a bit weird!

Singer mimes on stage!

CGI used in TV broadcast!

Typical China to be honest, a fancy facade to cover a rotten core.

Just mentioning after so many people were going on about how amazing the opening was. Anyone can make it look fantastic with CGI

Where in the rule book does it state that everything has to be "real". At the end of the day they fooled all the people watching it "live" and put on a good show which is what the opening ceremony is all about, and bringing politics into this is just stupid tbh.

So you don't see the difference between a movie and a supposed live event?

I can tell the difference. I don't see how its relevant though.

The Olympic Opening Ceremony is a show. You watch it to be entertained. Does it matter how they create these things? What is the difference between this and anything you go to see at the theatre? (or Cinema as not many people go to the theatre anymore.)

Agree with Cadelin, I enjoyed it and will continue to enjoy the Olympic games and personally I couldn't care less, the rest of it was real anyway.

i dont agree at all tbh

me either.

I've always seen the olympic opening ceremony as a show of a nations history, culture and personality, not a CG film experience. I reckon the organisers wanted to wow everyone with the ceremony, with the hope of the viewer forgetting any previous controversy surrounding the games.

/edit and I guess you cant blame 'em :>

only problem i have is the girls that they wouldn't allow to be seen.

the footsteps i couldn't care less about.

i'm quite certain they aint the only one thats been manipulating a olympic opening in some way. but they HAVE probably been the only country that ADMITTED to it.

any other country would probably lie through their arse to try and cover it up.

all who thought the little girl was actually singing it live should be happy for this large scale "do you need glasses" test :)

Yeah, 'cause China is one of the honest countries around :p

And Catelin, where does it stop then? In the end you could make an animation film instead of the opening event, I think it should be live performances and a show of the cultures of the nations, as somebody before me mentioned.

Obviously you can tell the difference, and my point was there IS a difference, so any reference to George Lucas is an invalid argument, as he was not in the same business, but I'm happy to know that you can tell the difference :)

Yes, it does matter - the opening ceremony has recently become a reflection of the society and competition - ie. Faster, Higher, Stronger.

Not Longer, Prettier, Falser. People want a LIVE show - the idea that things can be done without electronic enhancements of their actions (especially under pressure) is the marvel of it. There is rather a difference between that and simple 'being entertained at the cinema' though those who watch Kung-Fu/Martial Arts might also disagree as they don't want to see bullshit CGI - Ong Bak anyone?

me either.

Part of my point. As intoned by Drucken. The Chinese don't accept failure and never have. The girl singing couldn't even afford to get it wrong even if she was live. Getting one firework wrong would have annoyed them.

On a side note: Chinese Taipei? Get stuffed. I have a Taiwanese friend who claims to be from Taiwan and always has, as does basically anyone he's ever met living there. Only China insist on that name and international bodies bow to it.

Sport and politics together suck. Shame. :(

I saw a documentary about how chinese athleates were treated by their trainers. And after seeing that I don't want to think about what would happen if that girl was singing herself and got something wrong
