For the duration of the beta, you will be able to find an NPC in each city that will allow you to reset your talent points and experiment with different talent paths. (Note: this option is ONLY available in the beta).

there used to be a specific npc that reset your talents for free, but now its done at your class trainer for a fee that increases every time you reset/respec. thats how its gonna be at retail i guess.

Well in the first 1.5 years of Daoc as far as i can remember there wasnt much Fotm'ness around, and so you couldnt really muck up a spec, as most, if not all were viable.

Maybe there wasn't much fotm'ness around but there was lots of noobness: SBs with 50env, triple specced Wizards, Pallys with 50chant and such :p Before the respec stones we were given free respecs at lvl20, lvl40 and for current lvl50s - that could have been 1.5-years after release though.

Talents work differently to speccing though. In WoW you buy your skills -- and even though some of them look gimp it's a good idea to pick them all up, either sooner or later. Talents are much more like ream skills, and chosen wisely can really boost your character's performance -- I am already finding that with my lowbie level 15 warlock in Beta.

Still searching for their equivalent of lifter 3 but sadly no luck yet. Seriously I think it would be hard to gimp your character with whatever talents you chose, but - of course - some will perform better in certain situations and certain combinations.
