in 99% of the cases sword is better because of the spd of legendary weapons.

If you wont use legendary weapons you can either go sword and use GS/Malice or axe and use Malice/croc(or TD).

Before I retired I was axe specced and I didnt notice myself performing worse then I did with legendaries. But archers with PD is a pain in the butt for non legendary users and especially rangers.

Dont think u can get 10% melee dmg, 10% melee speed and 10% styledmg with sword specc though (don´t quote me on that).

My personal tip for you would be. If you see yourself fighting majority of other stealthers use legendaries(sword). If you are more of a person that jump casters, healers etc then use artifact weapons(axe).

Don't think it really matters too much with spec tbh, most seem to use CS styles.

As for the art bonuses...
Using Battler/Malice + Maddening/GoV(or GSV)
11% Melee Dmg
9% Style Dmg
6% Melee Spd

Sword takes less end but if your using CS it makes no diff

Imo Battler dont suck, ive hit using battler for 333 main hand without crits

as for weapons i'd pick sword purely for better styles than axe and ofc speed and Leg Weapons.

GS procc >>>>>>>>> Battler procc

And GS is slower then Battler aswell.

atm im doin my sb and i plan on havin battler/malice combo but would prefer GS/Malice combo just need to work it into temp.

With Battler i have:

11% Style
10% Melee
10% Speed

and temp with GS/CTD in that works lol with decent str oc and all skills capped lol hard. with battler i done it.

SB's should get to spec Hammer and add a new CS style to replace PA called "Bollock Smash" with a 5 min stun.

Spec matters as Grymligast pointed out because axe doesnt have valid speed legendary mainhand (read: too quick/fast)

Incase you dont know --> go sword this leaves the most options open.
