I left a deposit on a Jap Impreza WRX the other month. It took a month for the garage to pass it through the SVA test that all Jap cars have to go through, so for a month now I haven't had a car:eek:

Yesterday it was ready so I went for the test drive.

How the hell have they got a good name? I thought the handling was awesome, but the speed of it was not impressive, I have wanted one of these for a while and I had butterflies when I got in the driver seat.

I don't know if its because I have pretty much always had speedy cars or if Subarus just don't feel quick, but they actually are.

I had my deposit back and left the garage..............very pissed off:(

Someone please tell me a car that will impress me!

O well Trem :(
There are different kinds of Imprezas btw, the one to get is the WRX from what I hear.
If you're looking for performance though, heres a little tale. I just sold a Yamaha R6 to a bloke with a R reg Impreza. He came back from the test ride saying " I can't believe I thought my car was fast " :)
And thats only a 600 !
As far as cars I dunno, them Cossie Escorts are fast I believe , though Im also told bits fall off em at an alarming rate ...

an R34 skyline v. spec II might do it, especially if you're willing to play with the engine slightly... friend just imported one (still currently running the Jap plates) and although I haven't had time to go see it yet the lads who have were more than a tad impressed :D

scoobies are the worst jap cars about, the evo 6,7 or 8 are much better. or you could have have gone the rear wheel drive way with a cheao nissan 200sx or a 3rd gen mazda RX-7

Hmm nice, aint seen them in those colours before throddy.

Yes you are right Emb, although she aint happy when I drive cars either.

Evo's are about the same power as Impreza's I think.

Yes the Skyline would definately do it but I ain't got that sort of money:(

Damn throddy, that's pretty sweet. My dad used to have a '95 Fireblade. 750/900 cc iirc.

Throd, you know I hate you :)

I recently needed a new car, I needed pace + comfort, as I do big motorway mileage. I also wanted a convertable 2 seater.
Theres plenty out there, VX220, Elise, Boxster, TVR etc. Non of these gave me the practicality that (unfortunately) I need.

So I just bought a 230SLK, aye aer teh ghey :)

With the roof up its a 2 door coupe great on long journeys, roof down its a hoot. (0-60 7.1, 150mph)

ZX-9R is a brute but gets beaten by the competition, esp on the corners :p

Imprezas can be quick, if you tune them (like everything). I can't really understand why anyone would choose to buy the "normal" Imprezas though - they're very common. P1 Imprezas are very nice.

Given the amount of money you're talking about - Evos or Skylines (or indeed the RX7 beast) would be more bang for buck.

You mean Evo VIII surely? VII has been out ages. The VIII replaces it, comes with a full 3 year UK warranty and is £3000 cheaper!

They'll get you a badass car from Japan, cheap as chups, and sort all the SVA and import issues with you. Turn up, drop the cash, drive away. Done. And they're RX-7 specialists as well.

thoddy and his bikes pwn.

/me is still waiting for his Ducati.

Hey trems, Imprezza won't have as much go as you may think. Is a handling car. Heh, ffs man! All you have to do is play GT3 to know that even tuned it's still not that fast ;)

Now, with that price range in mind I'd go for a http://www.3wheelers.com/robin.html

Heh, but honestly, how about a nice BMW m3?

I cant beleive you thought it was slow....

Comparing it to the general scheme of things really. I have just sold a Celica GT4 and that impressed me more, that was about 250bhp. Having a nice old Saab 9000 turbo tomorrow:D

I've always like the Evos, and had the pleasure of driving one for my 21st Birthday present (had a rally day :) ). Was only an Evo VI but it went like shit off a shovel. It was Rally tuned, so the road version probably wont be *as* fast, but I remember them testing the Evo VII and the Imprezas on Top Gear / 5th Gear once, and speed wise the Evo came out top. The Impreza's ride was smoother, but you dont spend money on a car like that for comfort :D

If I had a spear 30k, I'd get the top of the range Evo VII.

I wonder if the car was restricted trem. Some of the jap import bikes we bought had restrictions on them, and were a right pain in the arse to remove.
I had a Nissan fairlady thing, and that went very fast , but some of the other cars didnt seem to be all that.
Sorry to be so vague, just a thought tho.

That is good advice from Throddy John, try a UK spec machine before you go off them completely.

Oh and as Yaka said an old Nissan 200SX markI post facelift 'J' reg ish, Very quick, tho with a little turbo lag that you need to get used to. Rear wheel drive larks :)

/me sobs 'god I loved that car'

/looks forward to VR6

Japanese cars are restricted to a max of 279bhp. It's due to their export laws afaik. A decent Subaru should be much quicker and more agile than a Celica GT4.
