If they "suggested" you go for a promotion, that's as close as they can get to telling you that you're a shoe-in for it. Perhaps they wanted you because the other woman, despite being "nice", is maybe completely fucking useless at her job!

Sorry, but if it was me I'd have had my application in 2 minutes after the suggestion. Screw the other person, she's not responsible for your welfare or financial safety, you are.

It was also said that the team leader role needs to go through a more formal process as 2 of us have applied. In the meantime we have had OFSTED and the Head has announced his resignation after 30 years and so alot has been going on. I Will chase it this week. The other lady has been very understanding and lovely...so far.

Yes, regardless of how nice she is, she won't be paying your mortgage etc. You work to fund your life and whilst a lovely nice working enviroment with good people helps it does not pay the bills. Go for the job if it is still an option.
