Having been in that situation a few times in the past they often do want that type of person (see the quote) to change so they can have both the risky dangerous bloke and the safe nice bloke at once.

Honest advice - that kind of girl isn't suitable for a relationship. Just reading a few of the responses, and the general opinion is if XX happens get out and leave her to it.
But has anyone considered the options route, if shes the only one on the scene at present you're gonna keep trying arent you? I know I suffer from that problem, I focus on one person and when she turns out to be fubar I find myself lost and out of options. Stupid thing to do I know but I believe its quite common.

Ask the person in question if she wants to have "sexysexy" if you feel like it (using the right words helps too) and avoid sending out mixed signals, even if she does.
Thats what i usually do and it works like a charm. Being bold sometimes and not too sensitive is a good thing apparently (from own experience). If she still acts carless, tell her to "get bent" or something.
