I'm only an hours drive from some of the best dark sky locations.

When you get there, it's truly amazing to get out the car and witness how bright the sky is with stars. The milky way is obvious.

Hey rynnor, they're talking about LP *right now* on Stargazing Live.
Taking some city folk to the middle of the Cotswolds.

The guy taking them asked if they'd seen the Milky Way and many of them hadn't. Dara just said that 90% if the UK can't see it!
I can see it from my driveway! I go a mile up the road and I can see it clearly. Go to my folks and I can see structure in the Milky Way with the naked eye.

So I switched on half way thru, and they were talking about black holes, but Dara kept trying to turn it into a comedy routine. Then I clicked over a bit later on and there was a comfy indoor studio with wine....

I thought it was going to be a bunch of anoraks outside with telescopes....you know, old school astronomy...meh

It's quite good though Lamp, remember it's for all ages and knowledge levels. They talked a fair bit about black holes in the sit down after show.

I was hoping to do some sort of random tour of Scotland so I could drive and take pictures, both pretty much my main hobbies at the moment. I just don't want to fall off a mountain and die

There are plenty of safe walks in the highlands where you won't fall off .

If you start doing ridges and stuff... well, different story.
