Standalone DVD player with support for...

Divx, xvid, x264 - the usual suspects etc

Anyone recommend me a good (cheap!) one? Doesn't have to upscale or anything fancy

I don't think there is one that plays x264 unless you consider a PS3?

What gunner said about x264 is right. PS3 will play that format if its been converted.

Oppo are the best dvd players but they aren't terribly cheap.

TBH you are better off getting a network media server these days, but they generally cost about £100 with support for x264. A PS3 will do the job, but is a bit pricey unless you also plan on using it as a console/blu-ray player.

Dunno why I put x264 in there, dont need it considering it's for a an old CRT telly in the bedroom. Just need a cheap player with good support and cheap pricetag.

Loads and loads of dvd players that support divx, I have a 5 year old one that does it, and my first dvd player (10 years ago I think) did it.

Check Richer-Sounds and the like, should be able to get one for about £30.

I like the look of that Toshiba. My Pioneer DVD player can't play anything other than regular DVD's. I'm quite tempted myself but I don't really need one...

My mate got the Toshiba one, he hates it, says the fast forward and skip on them is awful he also said other things but I wasn't listening.
