Highly technical but wow, seems the baseline is that installing Sophos makes your system more vulnerable than not having it as your Anti-Virus software.

They've been under scrutiny for some time. They've always been quite shit, then a couple of years ago that was upgraded to very shit and use AVG/MSE instead. A couple of months ago they fucked themselves over when Sophos detected Sophos as an infection, and now this.

MSE/Eset ftw. All my corporate stuff is now MSE (SCEP).

MSE is the baseline minimum for all friend and family machines I deal with. Better than nothing and doesn't hog a load of system resources (unlike Norton, McAfee and more recently AVG).

Yeah, I tried a different bunch of the free Antivirals and Firewalls..

Got pissed off as for some reason they were all shit in one glaring way or another (what is it with that and software? I never find something that does everything right even though it shouldn't be hard). And they all hog resources.

Decided to trial MSE and Windows Firewall - no issues for 2 years.

Unless you're trawling pr0n and downloading all kinds of crap, its all a myth.

I don't disagree, I use the MS solutions these days because they work with no bullshit. However if anyone is running Sophos, they need to know.
