Sony Z Ultra ... Google Play edition

At first, Sony handsets had my curiousity. Now they have my attention.

It does mean you should be able to unlock the bootloader (supported by Sony) and put the official Google ROM on a normal Z Ultra if you like tinkering. Sony have long supported the AOSP and I know there's a vanilla ROM available for my Z. I've never bothered personally as Sony's skin isn't too far removed from vanilla, and the Sony apps like the Walkman more than make up for not being on the latest version. More than a few bits of Sony's UI have made it into vanilla too (transparent notification bar, fullscreen on photos and videos etc).

Still so tempted to ask work to sort me a Z Ultra. Such a sexy piece of hardware.
