Isn't 16.7million colours better? And you could get better brightness and contrast ratios.

I have that Samsung. It's a good monitor, well worth the money.

Oh sorry I misread you wanted us to stop you!

Well the blacks are a bit rubbish because of (what I believe to be) the backlight shining through the inactive pixels so it's more of a dark grey than a black with a bit of lightening at the edges of the screen.

I have spotted a little bit of blur when doing a high speed strafe in CS but I haven't seen this in any other game/application (yet).

The base is totally unadjustable beyond forward/back tilt.

The markings by the OSI buttons are a bit rubbish and I keep forgetting which button does what.

Despite that stuff it still kicked the crap out of my old CRT (which I thought was an awesome monitor until I had them side by side) but it might be enough to put you off :)

Yes. 16.2m colour displays are interpolated up from 262K colours and look crap (banded colours etc.)

Bollocks. Have you actually seen a 930BF or just going on some review that you've read?

No, it's just a fact that 16.7million colours is better.

Hmmm. I didn't buy it. You got me mulling over that BenQ monitor too.

As the proud owner of that monitor, I can honestly say to you. Buy it NOW. NOW!

That would be a £100 less than I paid for mine, and I got mine, err 5, 6 months ago now?

The only downside with it is, although it supports 720p and 1080i, is that it doesn't do the funky decoding that will be needed to accept hdtv and hd-dvd signals. So don't expect to use it as a substitute TV in the future.

I will however be plugging my xbrick360 into it via component to get hi-def modes :)

Rusty knob Rob :) It's got a certain ring to it :)

Nice monitor! A bit pricey for me though, and the refresh rate is a bit low.

Yet to see a pure monitor that supports HDCP, even though it's just an extension of DVI! Seen lots of LCD TV's/Plasmas that do so though.

Chet,

What games do you play? Do you get any ghosting etc? Do HL2 CS:S DOD:S etc play well in widescreen? Does it give you an advantage being able to see a bit wider? What about DVDs?

I really do intend to get that monitor at some time, but even at that fantastic price I can't do it for a few months. :(

DVD's I watch on my normal telly, cause its better at playing them. And bigger.

It's fantastic for gaming, I have never ntoiced any ghosting or anything. I don't know about advantage, but the 16:10 mode in HL2 and CS:S is great, really does look stunning. The native res is 1920 * 1200 and it gives you lots of workspace for everything non gaming as well.

One thing to remember is that if you want to play any new games (Q4, etc.) in that resolution you'll need a ninja 1337 pc with SLI 7800GTX's...

Thats what I thought, but I run hl2 and cs:s at that res just fine, on a 9800pro. It just means you've got to turn down the Ansiotropic and AA settings.

The monitor also supports other resolutions apart from its native one without looking like it shouldn't be.

That's interesting. Mostly TFT's look shite at non native resolution.

Isn't AA less important at higher resolutions? Or have I got te wrong end of the stick?

I've never really understood ansiotropic filtering, nor noticed any earthshattering differences with it turned on, so that wouldn't be a loss.

At the same time if the purchase of this monitor did require the purchase of a nice new 7800GT then that wouldn't be the end of the world :)

As long as it has the same aspect ratio it looks fine in games. The desktop however looks odd out of native res.

As the monitor is also a TV it may have some kind of image processing circuit to upscale the display to the right resolution, not heard much of this kind of thing happening outside of PAL/NTSC though!

With LCD monitors it will look fine as long as it's using whole pixels to represent pixels (i.e. a monitor with a native resolution of 1600x1200 will look fine running at 800x600, as it will use 4 pixels to emulate 1), otherwise it tends to not look right, either blocky or distorted, hence the looking shite.

It isn't that AA isn't important at high resolutions, it that it becomes very intensive (more area to render) for not too much quality gain, and therefore most people don't bother with it.

Lol, I just got a 7800GT, and, once I fix the stability problems I'm having with the Nforce4 drivers, I'm looking forward to trying it out in a few games (although I'm limited to 1280x1024 by my monitor). FEAR and Q4 are on the way.

Really? I thought all high-end Dell monitors had composite and s-video in?

It has component, composite and s-video in. But to be a TV it needs a TV tuner. Which it doesnt have.

True! But these days almost everyone's got some kind of external tuner, video, digibox, etc.

I have a 30" industrial LCD display (TV without a tuner, so basically a LCD monitor with a DVI port, a few Scart sockets, an s-video socket, a composite socket and a bunch of progressive scan sockets) and it's fine for me to use it as a tv as I have digital cable.

£553 for a 24" TFT!

It's almost worth getting a loan.

'kin hell.

When I first posted this link the monitor was priced at £603 with delivery, and there was an offer running of £50 off all orders. Now look at the price! Have they gold plated it or what?
