Over the coming weeks and months we intend to attract a lot more people to these forums and the level of Newbie bashing and general intolerance scares me.
Also, the sheer level of abuse I had to put up with after I banned Dimebag for a repeat offence of something obviously unacceptable was astounding and was one of the most upsetting moments I've had on here. Dimebag was the first person I've ever permanently banned from these forums in all these years and yet the invective and name calling suggested I'd killed the neighbours cat.
So, I'm moving the line of whats not acceptable just a little so newcomers feel comfortable and people understand there are rules and this isnt the wild west.
Our Terms & Conditions are pretty open (although rather long I conceed) and permit swearing and the like. But they dont permit some of the behaviour thats been rife on here lately. Frankly, thats partly my fault for not stopping it. But better late than never.
Its not going to be a police state, but its not a playground either. We need to tone down the sheer level of intolerance and nastiness thats become so rife. I want you to enjoy these forums as a place you can come to to talk to like minded people away from the real world. I want you feel at home here, but that applies to everyone, not just the opinionated few that have made this theirs.
Please remember that running these forums makes us your publisher and we have a legal duty that is unavoidable. Those that want a completely free forum where they can say what they like need to think about emmigration and finding a new forum home, as the law in the UK simply doesnt allow that.
I'm also removing the warning from this forum, because some are starting to use it as a shield to hide behind. I'm also adding myself, Biffy and Natrat in as moderators for this forum. Its purely cosmetic I admit as we do it anyway, but it'll act as a reminder that things have changed.
Lastly, I wont make this an Announcement, as they cant be replied to and I really have no wish to stifle free speech. I'm sure some of you wont like this change, but give it time, it might make this place better even for you.
