Ok so I need two bikes when I got to the Netherlands:

1] a commuting folding bike to do 10kms (at the most) a day, it has to fold to be allowed on the dutch trains...

2] a round town bike so that I can do my shopping etc. I am aware that riding a man bike in NL is not acceptable :p as apparently I may need to wear a skirt *laughs*.

I know what I don't want... it can't be pink and the rear break must be on the handle bar, not by pushing backwards on the peddle... I didn't know such a mechanism existed until I got to ride Stoff's granneh's bike which is both pink eurgh and has the weird breaking mechanism.

Finally I they can't be overly expensive as they will probably be stolen several times.

As far as purchases I am hoping that TdC will act as translator and ensure that I am not being ripped off by some trader taking advantage of a poor English girl :p

TdC || ripped off || taking advantage

tempting :)

both bikes can be had reasonably easy Yoni. A folder bike is usually one size fits all, and you're tiny :))) so it will have to be pretty light I guess. New ones are expensive though.

A proper town bike can be had reasonably cheaply 2nd hand. I'd advise drum brakes (eg not the back-pedal thing you dislike hehe), gears (standard is the 3spd, I'd go for that as it's low maint usually), obv a ladybike :p, and perhaps the Dutch standard black canvas pannier bags so you can tote your baguettes, chocolate and morning paper with ease ;) You'll have to test drive it though, for comfort and making sure it fits you well enough.

Oh, and a big, fuck-off-you-thieving-cvnt lock. All Dutch bikes are required by law to have working brakes, lights and a bell so you will have to watch for that.

Oh i forgot the frame definitely has to be the right size.... grannehs bike is too big and when I stop it reminds me that the previous night / morning had been good *cough*...

What I am trying to say is that I would like it so that I can touch the floor without intimately bruising myself :(

If budget isn't an issue, get a Brompton for your folding bike. They are awesome, though apparently they are a bit new media/web 2.0/Apple user trendy in the Netherlands.

For your 2nd bike, I'm sure Teedles can find you a piece of shit town bike for under €50.

sure, or I could get her that A-frame one with the tiny wheels, but that would perhaps be bad *grins evilly*

as to the other. easily done. she just has to fit it tbh :)

You know the A-frame bikes are shit. My cock is bigger than those wheels. Hell, your cock is probably bigger than those wheels.

I'd like two bikes. But I'm pretty sure we're not talking about the same thing ;)

yes, and mine is distinctly average as well! only 9 internet inches!

on the plus side, and besides giving her a good time on the way to work, it does fold up into like hankie size so she can keep it in her handbag or something.

Handy. It means it'll easily fit in the ambulance after you try to ride it.
