I logged into FH today for the first time in years, I've had a laugh reading my old DAoC posts *cringe* I acted like a complete ass sometimes!

Anyway, I'm looking at DAoC with rose-tinted specs and wondering whether anyone fancied taking the population on Gareth (US Classic Server) back to the good old days of Excalibur :)

DAoC is still the best PVP MMO I've ever played, I pre-ordered Warhammer but felt it lacked, both in PvP and PvE, so cancelled my preorder.

Any old DAoC guys still about? Grimster/Humbopp/Aussie/Tilda/Konah/Outlaw etc? :D

So from this I take it you haven't actually played the game at all. Either that or you didn't sub and typed preorder by accident.

But seriously don't be poisoning the warhammer section with your DAoC talk.

Whats the problem? He's trying to find some old gaming buddies who he suspects might be playing WAR and reading this forum.

I'm pretty sure this comment was not meant as you are interpreting it.

Just imagine this guy would have said the same thing but WoW instead of DAoC. Do you think he would have gotten the same replies? No, he would have gotten 918724734723 negative answers :p

1 negative reply seams kinda mild.

Yeah I'm an ex WoW player so I'm trying to keep the balance.

Now as an experiment
WoW is better than DAoC anyway................ :flame:

The oldtimers are still around. I've talked to aussie ingame (he played a mates char, in our guild). Tilda is still Mod around here. Konah is around on the boards, i think. Outlaw and Alpha is gone :( - guess they got old.

Me + rami plays at US-servers for daoc - great fun. :)

Sorry I didn't mean to offend anyone, I did pre-order the game but played the Beta and didn't like it so ended up cancelling it.

I heard alot of the old DAoC players moved to WH so was wondering whether they had given up on the DAoC boards.

CowledScout what server are you playing on? The Classic servers seem to be dead :(

I played on lancelot, and returning in a week or so :). We have a ranger duo going.

I'm sure I remember your name from Excal.

Doesn't playing on Lancelot mean you need to do the ToA grind and stuff? :( I suppose you don't hold out much hope for Origins if you're starting on Lancelot.

Actually they've changed quite alot :).

ToA artifacts can now be bought with bounty points. Along with Master abilities.

So get to lvl 50, takes 1-2 days nowadays. 2 days /played, if you solo, with a buffbot. Then get a low qual SC-suit, and start RvR.

I can recommend do it with a mate, since it's nearly impossible for an rr1-3 to take down an rr9+ enemy ;). Most people are THAT high now.

Tempted on the US thing - there's 3 clusters, right. Guess then when the population on all goes down the pan they have the potention for an omni-cluster which will give the game as long a life as it's gonna get period?

Meanwhile which best cluster to join? Not bothered about 8v8, just some euro peeps on there, soloing and fucking about on an active server, hib ofc. If hibs the smallest pop on one of there servers that sounds good.

WAR has changed a lot since beta m8, when I played the beta I wasn't fussed either. However, things have changed a lot and for the better. I've still got my gripes about the game, but its a lot better than the beta. Give it a whirl, I think you might be surprised.

Just remember PQ and inf for gear, and PvP to break up the repetitive quests found in PvE. :D

Problem is I have a bunch of friends that play(ed) it, they have crumbled after a few weeks because they think it's crap, apparently from what I can tell, Bright Wizards are overpowered, the PvP is repetitive and dull and the levelling is a real grind.

I wasn't tempted during beta and certainly not now after hearing what they have to say about it. :/

I'd honestly say what you heard is sort of right. The BW is well overpowered, scenarios can be very repetitive (i've lived in Nordenwatch in tier 1 and Mourkain Temple in tier 2 - don't seem to be much else happening), though as with any PvP no two scenarios are the same. ORvR can be fun, though tbh I don't stray there much atm. Maybe as I get higher I will, but ORvR seems quiet atm. PvE is a bit of a grind, but the killer part of it is killing the same type of mobs over and over - dwarves/elves/humans for destrucion. Very little variation, which is sad considering the warhammer beastiary they can draw on.

The trick is to get the balance between PvE and PvP right, and you should have quite a bit of fun. I must admit the game is quite easy to put down and do something else (unlike DAOC which almost consumed my every waking moment lol), but I actually find that as a plus, because it actually allows me to have a life as well. :D

Its nowhere near as addictive as DAOC, but it does have its own charm, abeit a more watered down charm than DAOC. Its got a long way to go to get to its full potential, but it has made headway in the right direction. :)

I fully agree with the OP. DaoC was the best PvP experience I ever had in an mmorpg. I even reinstalled it and registered for the 14 days free trial (dvd came with WO), only to see that a massive 9 players were logged into Excalibur...
I also bought WO thinking it would have the gameplay of DaoC but upgraded to today's standard, but boy was I wrong. I sure wish Mythic released something like DaoC 2, boy do I miss those days in Emain... :worthy:

There is a classic cluster and then 2x ToA clusters. If you are going ToA the Devon cluster has more European players (or it did at least, my knowledge of this is pre WAR release). You will need to find a guild if you play because unless they fixed it recently the housing system is fucked and you have to look through 10+ servers to find stuff.

Hibs are generally the least popular realm. A total lack of active bards is a huge problem for hib groups.

you dont need a bard when you solo on a creeping spec firbolg animist :)
I have a templated rr3 something light eld on merlin, didnt like it at all tbh. Most rvr was in labby - 3fg's of rr12 running in circles zerging everything, NF was mostly empty - while most action was at the docks area when 5-6 member stealthgrps would make sure you will abandon all hope of solo or duo play. Or stupid duel circles on other side of crau, when rr11 solo tanks circle-jerk by /bow and duelling each other. Didnt find roaming in NF fun at all :(
I didnt try grp rvr there though.
