Kathal, go whine in the cold, don't come into this bar where everyone has smoked for years and even the locals who don't smoke are perfectly happy to sit amongst us, trying to pressure us into doing what you want us to do.

Proof that anti-smokers consider themselves better than smokers, when in fact they are mostly just over-opinionated, selfish and ill informed by pressure groups who will threaten to hold their breath until the world falls into it's idealistic little line...

Kathal, read the first post in this thread again - it's been dragged waaay off topic.

It's meant to be about the RIGHT to smoke, not whether you want me to or not. The landlords and breweries choice to have clearly signposted entirely smoking or non-smoking, and why it's not been investigated more than it has...

When i hear clueless people like you talking about something they dont know anything about i start laughing. Have you ever considered that people has social needs? a need to be accepted a place. Maybe some of the smokers got rejected other places they tried to fit in, and some smokers said "hey come join us" doesnt it sound tempting after beeing rejected other places? Most people smoke out of some kind of social reason i belive. I may sound like a smoker, but im not. I just know that the stuff i wrote above has happened to several people i know.

Sorry the for bad english, but im sure you got my point.

OMG im a fat greasy loser if I smoke like the tough guys I win friends w00t.
people that smoke because their friends smoke are seriously fucking stupid. Most of my friends smoke, but strangely enough I just want to be me and not my friends so I choose not to, it funny though they are still my friends.

But before you become addicted you make the choice to keep doing it knowing you might become addicted.

Ohh and about the fillings you guys talked about on page 3-5 (afaik), yes its dangerous and atm there are done something about it here in Denmark. Yey, go us.

Cal, you seem to be comparing each of these arguments to you, and yourself as some healthy messiah who does no bad - Are you honestly going to tell me that in your life you have never done anything to be popular? On reflection of it, think it was a stupid thing to do?

Stop talking about the frailties of human's, the choices they have to make amongst their peers and social circles - just stick to the bloody topic!! Whats wrong with having specifically oriented smoking/non-smoking bars???

Why has this option been rejected? I hear people saying that studies show concerns that the ones that choose to go non-smoking would eventually lose out to the ones who choose to remain smoking - well, to be honest that tells me everything i need to know, but i'll not trust the study as i don't believe it's true.

I think that the option is the best way forward, without encroaching on peoples liberties and freedom to smoke amongst smokers, if they want to...

But would you favor that over the outright illegality of ciggarettes?

See, what drives me the maddest is that you anti-smokers think it is your right to tell me what i can and can't do, even though i do my utmost to make it so that you incessantly whiney buggers have nothing to whine about - doesn't matter you STILL whine and force what YOU think is the way it should be on everyone else. When are you complaining, whining, churlish, selfish chimps going to go protest about something that is REALLY important?

There are youths running around on our streets with guns as fashion accessories. Knives are common sidearms and gangs of 30+ kids roam the streets knowing that the police are too few in number and too lacking in power to do anything about it. Crack cocaine is being produced by the truck load and children from eastern europe are employed to sell it in clubs (yes, them clubs where SMOKING will be illegal)...

Click the 2 links I posted and READ it.

Hagit Limor narration: The EPA Guidelines range from Good to Hazardous. Of the 15 places we visited none measured good, 2 measured moderate, 3 were unhealthy for sensitive groups like children, older adults or people with heart or lung disease, 3 were unhealthy for all groups, 4 were very unhealthy, and 3 rated hazardous. Now keep in mind our findings reflect only the time we spent in each place. They could change at other times.

But the night we visited Arthur's restaurant in Hyde Park, we measured an unhealthy level. Owner Joe Santorelli tells us the smoke eater wasn't working that night but has been fixed since.

Across town in Fairfield, we measured a very unhealthy level at the UAW bingo hall. No one returned our calls asking for a comment.

How about kid-friendly restaurants like Barleycorn's in Lakeside Park?

Unhealthy for sensitive groups, including children. J. Alexander's in Hyde Park got our lowest reading, moderate. Also moderate: the Olive Garden in Fairfield

But in Clifton, Fries Cafe measured as hazardous. The owner says he'd support a smoking ban if everyone else had to do it.

At the Blue Note in Price Hill, the owner wasn't available for comment on the hazardous reading we got.

And we didn't hear back from the owner of Yesterday's in Mt. Adams, the highest level we measured by far, despite the exhaust fan the manager says replaces 100% of the air in the place in 30 minutes.

AND if you could get your grey stinking head out of your toxic cloud, you had seen this post: https://forums.freddyshouse.com/showpost.php?p=2737464&postcount=49

None. Just go outside and smoke. I’m sure you need a bit of fresh air.

Well its not my right YET :)
You choice to smoke next to me affect me. It makes me sick and will probably kill me one day. That can’t be right, so yes I think it’s right that I should be able to be in public place without having to breathe your toxic smoke. Hmm, is the smoke coming from your cigarettes toxic? Y E S!!!

Selfish chimps. lol. It’s no me going “I want to smoke everywhere even though it annoys a lot of ppl and it’s dangerous.”
Would I replace all cars in the world with none polluting cars if I could? Yes. The truth is that a LOT of ppl are working towards “clean” cars. Sadly there are a lot of powerful ppl that are working against that, but we are getting closer. Just because there are other problems than smoking doesn’t mean that we should ignore smoking.

Can’t you see how dumb that sounds? So because gangs are running around with knives we shouldn’t do anything about smoking? What about child porn? Should we stop doing something about that too due to the fact that ppl are using knives in the streets?

jees, you miss the point on purpose, im sure of it...

Point 1 - No, you piss off outside and whine about it. See, silly argument, huh?

point 2 - You obviously haven't read any of the thread, and i really cannot be arsed to go through it all again. You assume a lot about people. I'm yet to see a smoker go to all the trouble of lighting up just to piss off a non-smoker, yet Non's and anti's think it their social duty to come and bother me about it, from a place where it didn't affect them at all. Get off your horse...

Point 3 - erm, where did i say i wanted to smoke everywhere even though it annoys a lot of people and its dangerous? For one, it doesn't annoy a lot of people, it annoys the loudest people who are given that voice by a pathetic government who's priorities are out of whack - leads neatly to my last point.

What you want me to do, make an entire list of the things that should be considered more urgently in need of attention than smoking?

No, cos anyone with an ounce of common sense wouldn't need it. Child porn shouldn't take second place to knives on the streets - it shouldn't take second place to interfering busy bodies who are convinced smoking is the biggest, most heinous sin since eve polished an apple against her muff...

Congratulations! that statement just made you look even more stupid. It just shows that you are completly clueless. It happened to me aswell when i moved where i love atm. I got in touch with the wrong people and they all smoked. So when they took a smoke i was standing there with them (ofc because they were my friends) and after some time i started smoking to. I smoked for over 2 years until i figured "hey i dont need this anymore". Call me stupid or whatever you want but it's not allways easy to come to a new place and fit in.

These people may not be 'stupid', but they still choose to smoke, perfectly aware of the risks. If they want to risk getting addicted to nicotine if it gets them friends that's their call. They aren't forced to do so though.

I’m allergic to bio washing powder does that mean I got the right to ban it so i don’t get hurt? No I just don’t wear it or avoid touching people who use it.

So why does the anti/non smokers think that its fair to ban smoking outright?

Btw I am a non smoker but I am not on my high horse thinking I am better than everyone and that my health will suffer cause of these filthy stinking ashtry lickers. I Things everyday bug me but I am not going to get them banned, I got more important things to worry about.

Col I refuse to answer to any of your replys any more, you have seriously wound me up with you 12yo way of thinking (I’m not saying you are 12 so get back in your box) someone who doesn’t understand that a lot of people are very insecure and have no real social skills (there is a name for this condition someone must know the name of it) and the only way they know how to learn social skills is to mimic other people, yes even the bad things they do.

That's an incorrect analogy. Firstly because an allergy is quit a bit different from increasing the chance you'll get cancer. Secondly because smoke covers a radius quite a bit larger than bio washingpowder and thus is harder (often impossible) to avoid.

Not saying anything on the smoking ban itself, just commenting on your argumentation. I don't really care about the ban.

I do, but the analogy is wrong. It also makes the people who support the smoking ban look worse than they actually are, as I'm sure most of them would not argue for a bio washingpowder ban if they were allergic to it.

“didn't affect them at all”? So smoking in pubs etc doesn’t affect ppl? Check out my links clown.

Basically that’s what you said, yes. All this about the government not prioritising right is a load of BS. Why do you think bringing down crime will be better if they don’t go thru with this ban? Do you think it’s taking a lot of resources from crime fighting? Do you think we will get cleaner cars faster or something? What do you think will be sacrificed due to this ban?

Rediknight said:

Sure make a list. But be sure that list ONLY includes things that are pushed away because of the smoke issue.

You don’t get it. The ban has NOTHING to do with fighting crime. Is it the government that’s out on the streets fighting crime? No, it’s the police. They agreed on a law and that’s it. The police still have the same amount of time to fight crime. Be that child porn or gangs on the streets with knives in funny outfits.

If the anti-smokers feel it is within their rights to insist on everyone in the same building as them can't smoke, then where does it stop?

Cars are the closest argument i can see, yet so many people have become reliant on them for situation where they don't actually need them. To narrow it down even further lets just look at 4x4's, or Chelsea Tractors, as some people like to call them.

As a smoker, and as a generally polite person, i do my absolute utmost to avoid forcing my smoke on anyone else, even other smokers. Cars spew pollution into the environment, indescriminately adversely affecting EVERYONES health from kids to pensioners, from athletes to terminally ill people. 4x4's do all this AND they have a massively increased risk of causing a fatality if involved in an accident with another vehicle or a pedestrian, but the minute i open my mouth to protest the necessity for a mom with one 3 year old to own one of these, i get told "It's my choice!! I can drive whatever i want!" which is, in essence the same situation we have here.

The difference being is that the lazy, fat arsed drivers of this country wouldn't be able to carry on with their lives without the use of their shit belching horseless chariot of sodom, even though i, and millions of others, are able to continue living a perfectly healthy, satisfying existance without one.

Now, if the government is serious about this smoking issue being in the fore about public health, then why is it considered more of an urgent issue than the millions of millions of cars that not only cause almost identical damage to our lungs, hearts, brains etc., but also are more likely to kill us outright in the event of an accident?

The people of this country demand one thing with their left hand, then chuck it away with their right - until all those non-smoking people who bleat on about the damage my smoking is doing to their health, when it's THEIR CHOICE to be close enough to me to inhale my smoke (which is rare, unless they make the effort to be there), ditch their petrol and diesel driven cars and start riding bikes/driving non-polluting cars, then i'm going to continue to see a really lopsided society.

Lets assume that the government are successful in their apaprent bid to stop people smoking - all their buddies that contribute to their campaigns who work for tobacco manufacturers would be mighty pissed off. Taxes would soar for everyone to support the NHS and any other publicly funded services. Illegal smoking "dens" would spring up in backstreets across the country, giving the police more pointless work...

I wouldn't mind guessing that by the time this goes through there will be at least one landlord/brewery that tries to get this overturned at the European Court of Human Rights, claiming that their entire customer base smokes and it's their right to do so...

wouldn't be surprised if they won too, but not because of it being right, because France and Germany will vote for anything to put the skids under Bliar...

It's such a screwed up situation...

You don’t get it. The ban has NOTHING to do with fighting crime. Is it the government that’s out on the streets fighting crime? No, it’s the police. They agreed on a law and that’s it. The police still have the same amount of time to fight crime. Be that child porn or gangs on the streets with knives in funny outfits.
forget it - you go and live your looong and wonderful life, being more concerned about what other people are doing that whats happening in your life.

You've obviously already decided that this ban is good for the entire world - well, go vote away, muggins - you enjoy your life, until something that YOU do is considered "bad" and the government tries to ban that with no rhyme nor reason.

What have you got against the optional ban then? What have you got against us lepers of society having our own special place to kill ourselves in? To be honest, i'd prefer to smoke in areas where non-smokers aren't allowed, let alone welcome, then at least i wouldn't have to put up with your selfish attitude...

The for the love of god go home and smoke all you want. Make a club or something and invite all the ppl you know that smokes. And If I for some reason should come by then feel free to slam the door in my face. I don’t want to breathe your air anyways.

a bit like you in this post?

at the end of the day smoking was banned in pubs and resteraunts because it DOES harm people around you. regardless how polite you are, unfortunately everyone isnt, in fact a large ammount of people arent to be blunt.
Stopping you smoking in a pub does not harm everyone around you, stopping you smoking in a pub does not harm your health.
The same cannot be said the other way round.

When does it stop? who knows but people gave away their first right at "thou shall not kill"

if thats the only argument to ban it, its pretty rofl dont you think? driving cars harms the whole of our planet but no one really gives a shit. people keep on trucking. drinking alcohol harms people, when the drunkard goes out of control. do you see?
