But that's the misconception Bods (in my experience) - there aren't crowds of people outside smoking, just a few people coming and going all the time. Typically the outdoor smoking areas i've seen are not by the front entrance (this was Glasgow as well as my local).
Additionally, fair point about washing clothes; but it's more people like me that pop out for a fly pint in the evening: a fresh set of jeans, jacket and zippy top all stinky (jeans and jackets wearable for several days) and if i go to the pub at lunch time for some food, or after work for a drink; my dry clean only suit will stink until I get to the dry cleaners again.
Is it a big deal? Not really, i'm not often in the pub unless i'm going "out" out, but then again nipping out to the canopy with patio heaters for a quick fag isn't a big deal either
